Today while driving from toronto to guelph battery light came on. Now it comes on after few seconds of starting the car and remains on.

Battery is new, all connections are clean. I'm thinking of replacing the alternator as it has 150,000km on it.

Any one know good place around guelph, kitchner or even toronto for oem or rebuilt alternators (except autozone, heard many bad things about them)

Also, anyone know good shop to take it in to get it checked around guelph.

Thanks

autozone doesn't exist in canada, so you don't have to worry about that
I would start by looking in the yellow pages for rebuild shops and then googling for any good or bad words about those shops

There are no Mazda 3's in the UPIC yard. Mostly older model vehicles like 626's and Protégés. You will have to call them up and then pick up from the side parts pick up.

You can also try Start Auto Electric in downtown Toronto. Many dealerships buy rebuilt alternators there. You would probably have to pay for an extra core charge unless you have your old alternator with you.

Do you have any aftermarket intake on your car at all? I know when I had my SRI hooked up my battery light used to come on from time to time as well. One day I was driving my car and it actually shut off on me as I was pulling out of my driveway and it wouldn't turn back on after. I let her sit for a couple hours and called up my dad to come over and see if he could help me, but by the time he arrived when I went to show him first hand that the car wasn't turning on the problem disappeared and I could not replicate it.

If you're still running the stock intake, then it's almost definitely your batt/alternator that needs replacing.

Thanks for all the responses guys.
Its all stock 05 gt. I'm gonna call couple of places today and see if they have alternator for me. I wont mind spending extra for oem or reconditioned one, if that means peace of mind. Don't want to pull used parts and keep wondering when this one would fail.

This may not be a popular suggestion but try some affiliate dealers. For example Airport Mazda offers TM3 members discounts. May not be the cheapest route but a sure-fire way to get it done quickly and properly.

I think there is an affiliate dealership down in the Tri-Cities area that would probably be more ideal for OP, but I agree with you that going to a dealership would be your safest bet (depending on their pricing for what you need, of course)

I think Forbes Mazda is in Waterloo and they're on here.

edit - it is Forbes. Click Here (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?246-Forbes-Mazda) if you want to check out their section.

Thanks for all the response. I picked up a new alternator from Wally's Auto electric. He had rebuilt ones for 140$ and new for 180$, both with 1yr unlimited km warranty. 20$ core charge. Gonna swap it myself over the weekend. Awesome guys, very knowledgeable, free delivery in Brampton and surrounding areas.
I called Guelph city mazda dealership also, who quoted me 300 plus 2hr labor.

Lets hope, this should be the end of the problems, keeping my fingers crossed. Will keep updated.

Update: I bought new alternator from Wally from Wally's Auto Electric in Brampton. He had rebuilt one for 145 and new for 180, both with 1yr unlimited km warranty, plus free delivery in Brampton and surrounding places. Great guy, very knowledgeable, has been doing this for over 20yrs. He also provide free diagnosis of the charging system, to make sure if its battery, alternator or something else thats messing up.
Replaced it myself today. Took me 2hrs, mostly coz of yrs old stuck bolts, but overall it was easy process.
Problem solved, drove it 300kms to Windsor without any problems.
Thanks again for all the tips n help guys. Appreciate it. :)
