Have owned both:

Samsung

Pros: Open operating system means more free apps in the store (which is very big now!)
Bigger screen
More customization allowed
I love mine lol

Cons: Bigger size isnt for ppl with tiny hands. Most people get over the size in a week and can use it just fine
Expensize to fix broken screen

IPhone

Pros: iOS is a great OS.
Siri is better/faster than S-Voice
Great durability and build quality

Cons:
Very locked down
Apple Maps blow

Jelly Bean 4.1 is slowly being released for SIII and Google Now will be awesome.

If you want your phone to work very well and don't want to tinker with it, and want your phone to feel expensive - iphone hands down

If you like to fiddle with gadgets and don't mind fixing things when it breaks, and changing things to the way you want it to work and even make it better then iOS (but it is alot of effort), and you're gonna put a case on your phone so you don't care if its made of plastic - s3

if you want to try a fresh new OS because you're bored of iOS, but still don't like to fiddle with things, and you dont need fatbooth or other useless apps then maybe try windows phone 8 when it comes out. # of apps doesn't matter as much as quality, but lets see if MS can get devs on board with them to at least port the popular apps

Google now is pretty cool. gives me traffic info and an ETA on when I will get home before I leave work automatically. Too bad I can't stop it from picking the 407 as a route though

Just had a chance to try the iPhone 5 for the first time... and it's a really great package. Everyone says "It's fast" so I expected it to be quick... but web browsing is insanely faster then the 4S, which was already pretty quick. I definitely consider myself an Apple fan boy, so I'm biased. I like the Samsung phones themselves, I think they look great... but I've never liked Android... I don't know why. I'm very technical and I like to tinker... Just not when it comes to my phones.

At the end of the day, you need to try both and decide for yourself. Everyone will have their own opinion, but only yours will matter at the end...

That's an easy fix. :)

When you see the 407 route, go into Navigation through that card. Change your route to avoid tolls. And viola! Your default route in the card will be changed to whichever your other choices were in Navigation. Just to be safe, let the satellite lock on to you before exiting out to Google Now. That's how I got my Google Now to use 401 instead of 407.

Hope this helps!

i'd say it depends on how technical you are and how much customization you like to do. if u want a basic phone that just does its job then probably stick with your iPhone. If you like to play around with your phone and make it your own then Android is definitely the way to go. i'm running Android v4.1 (latest) on my samsung captivate (which is almost 3 years old). the beauty of it is the newer OS runs sooo much better than the older versions even though it has much more features! its the beauty of open-source and custom modifications :)

I'd wait for the next Nexus, it'll be either HTC, Sony, ASUS or Motorola who'll be producing it from what I hear. I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and its a great phone, but I've never been a huge fan of Samsung phones. I'd love a Nexus device with the design and upgraded specs of a HTC One X or a Droid (especially since el Goog' bought Motorola a while back). Sony is Sony, great designs and build, but their software on top of Android is 'meh'. ASUS? I'm a huge ASUS fan, what can I say :)

Well, whoever ends up being the one making the next Nexus phone (most likely Motorola, since Google wouldn't buy them out for no reason), it'll just be the device their making. The OS will be vanilla and PURE Google - no manufacturer bloatware. You know your GNexus OS has no traces of Samsung, right?

I saw a drop test video on youtube with the galaxy 3 vs the iphone 5. After 3 drops the galaxy had a shattered screen and the back of the phone broke off. iphone 5 only had a few scratches. The iphone was dropped 4 times. The last height was 6 feet and the iphone held up very well.
I`m just saying if you get the galaxy don`t drop it. ;)

i find it surprising the screens actually shattered...they are supposedly made with Gorilla Glass which is supposed to be supper strong. i've seen video of people taking a blade and cutting the screen with no lasting scratches :S

I don't buy phones for it's durability test.
I buy for it's use of software flexibility and how stable it is.

Not to go in to the technical part of it but keeping it simple of what makes these pros and cons:

SGS3

+
It has a bigger screen
I can make 16gb have an extra 32gb of space
Its big from what she said
Android allows me to place widgets and customize my home screens
I love app launcher
720p

-
Battery
I can't afford this during the time being

IPHONE5

+
The build quality has improved since the 4
Its nice, light and thin
No death grip
Pretty quick in browsing

-
What are you going to do with such a limited OS if you don't want to JB it
Its only a bit taller, no 720P
I don't see the USB input being durable as hell, I would break it forsure if I was in a rush.
I prefer the older iPod cables.
I like to change batteries when they die, I cant open this one
I waste 16gb pretty quickly, you can't expand on card in this one

============================

All in all, I'd choose the GS3. I've had both of the best worlds. I own an iPhone at the moment but prefer the Android OS more. The Android always comes up with different things for newer models.
I wish I could have seen something different other than the plain old grid style app home screen.

- In car screen savers ( I leave my iphone playing radio / music in my car charged so it stays on then dims)
- Apple patented widget style.
- A ****ING BUTTON THAT SHOWS ALL APPS so my screen stays clean and not having to scroll through 5 home screens

My final statement; I'd like both phones. Give me a GS3 and I'll love it. Give me an iPhone 5 and I'll play with it for 2 weeks, sell it, buy the GS3 and have some cash left over.

its not about the glass itself, its the way that it hits the floor - it shatters when it gets hit from the side. It's strong from the front

Impressive

Who actually cares whether the damn CELL PHONE has a 720p screen? seriously...are you watching a ton of Netflix on it or something? Do you not have a PC, or TV, or just about any other screen to watch multimedia on? I get it if you want to watch YouTube clips from time to time but if you actually think you need a 720p screen (4.8" mind you) on your phone that's just a little ridiculous.

I made the mistake of buying a 16GB for my 4S and I managed to fill it up once to the point where I couldn't even take another picture as I had no storage space. Once I uploaded all of my photos/videos onto my laptop I cleared that space and got over 60% of those 16GBs freed up. While I should have bought a 32GB model myself, I don't see why anyone can't do exactly what I did & have storage issues on their iPhones.

Not to knock the Galaxy 3 here as it is an awesome device, but it seems now that other manufacturers have finally created cell phones that can share the spotlight with the iPhone, everyone wants to stick it to Apple or something...I'm sure those at R&D at Apple HQ are using all this as motivation to keep pace with the new wave of Android phones set to launch in 2013.

Not going to say a thing about technical between the two as business should be usual...Android vs ios!! But just got myself a galaxy s3(since it`s 0 dollar now) while a young co-worker got an iphone 5(850 he paid:worship). Compared the two side by side and I must say the iphone 5 seems to have a better quality than the s3. I especially noticed it as I tried to peel off the back cover to insert the sim card and i seriously thought I was gonna break it! Don`t get me wrong , the s3 is an amazing device(not really sure yet but have to convince myself it is as I already signed 3 long year contract for it)just that samsung did made S1(still have it) felt a little more solid.

Although I shouldn't, I rip that back cover off so often

I think the decision comes down to initial payout price. I would probably get the iPhone 5 (never owned an iPhone in my life) but I am not willing to fork out $799 in one shot. But I also don't want to sign another 3 year contract with Telus.

If I go to Wind Mobile, their plans are great, but their network is questionable. If I could get my phone for 0$ from them, maybe then I would jump.

In the end my HTC Desire is a trainwreck for internal space, notoriously slow and I want to trade up, but I can't make up my mind between iPhone5 and GS3.

Frahhhhh. Plus I just bought a car, lol so that doesn't help my financial issue either :p

If you want something that's going to last a while and not be out of fashion in 6 months, stay away from Apple. Android is very good about backward compatibility with their OSs, that and actually adding features on new OS and phone releases. BTW, I completely agree about the $799, it's a phone, not winter tires!!!!

Your best bet is to go to a store and spend some quality time with both.

I am a biased iPhone 5 user myself but both phones do have there places. I'd take the iPhone simply because of the apps I've invested in over the years and the sheer amount of them available through the app store. You can download almost any kind of app thinkable. Throw that in with jailbreaking the phone and you gain a lot of customization. The S3 is a sick phone and probably would be my second choice, I just prefer the user friendliness of Apple products as the phone does what you expect it to do.

iPhone 5 will really cost your $1800 according to Gizmodo hahaha

http://gizmodo.com/5948408/the-iphone-5-really-costs-1800

I'm using the S3 now, coming from an iPhone 4. IMO, just seemed like iPhone 5 was playing catch up...all the "new" stuff they offer was already available on the GS3 (except for Siri...it kills the S-Voice or whatever BS Samsung calls it).

How's the iPhone 5 on batt life though? That's what I'm really curious about. Is it as good as they claim? Overall, I think I'd still choose the GS3 over the iPhone 5, just b/c of the flexibility and the bigger screen.
