Hey guys, I'm trying to design classy but simple logo. I'm in engineering so I don't have much creativity or skills in photoshop/illustrator.

Here's something is something I just put together, I would appreciate all advice and criticism

http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i440/hamza_nadeem1/Black-Shield-Wings-psd55620.jpg

I got the shield with wings from a free .psd site but I'll edit out the glimmering stars and make it 2 tones only.

Here is the same thing with the company name "Elevated Car Care" on the bottom, the cursive is hard to read but I'll find a new font later.

You can make the E a lot better and also the wing is a bit to old school, need some modern touch up. Its funny, my old registered business was Elevate and I still have my old logo on, maybe you can do some changes on the E and if you need help let me know?

I like the wing idea, reminds me of the Aston Martin logo which makes me think ultra classy. The font needs to match the classy theme for it to work though

dont really like the text. it looks messy and hard to read. as much as you want to make it unique you dont want to make it difficult to figure out either. should be clean and simple ( to a point) but not messy. you know what i mean.

Simplify everything. You want a logo to be easily recognizable and memorable.

Clean up the text/font

Clean up the wings

Make sure it's 100% vector (illustrator) and able to be reversed if required. It will save you a lot of headaches in the future.

This, especially being able to reverse it. So often overlooked, so important.

Never.... EVER.... create a logo, or use type in Photoshop.... ever.... lol

Also, seeing more and more people turning to free vector/PSD/font sites to create their logos instead of hiring a professional makes me le sad :(

Well then Ms. Graphic Designer...how much is reasonable to pay a professional to create a logo ?

I think you guys are incorrect in this case.

I don't think the text has to go, I just think it needs to be cleaner and reworked. No one will know what the logo is without the name below it. You aren't McDonalds, Nike, Apple, etc etc that can be recognized simply by a graphic. Well not yet anyway. You need to have the name of the company somewhere to start off and eventually when more people can recognize it without the text, you can remove it. Until then, make it work with the text.

This doesn't mean you always have to use it with the text, but for advertising and some stickers, etc you will definitely want to include it.

Depends on the experience of the designer ;)

Don't worry I'm not suggesting to go out and hire one. I'm just expressing my sad feelings about it. There is already some constructive criticism here that will help, somewhat.

You need to remember that a logo is the face of a company. You can expect to pay a fair amount for a good design. Bigger the company, higher the price.

man that fonts is brutal. No offence.

Look like "Blevated Bar Bare" at a distance.

Good logo are made from simple forms which grab the target audiences quickly. You might have to break it down to more simple forms as it look way too busy.

Have a read here. This is just 1 link of many. There is a lot more to designing brands and logos than people think.

Also, people who aren't ACTUAL designers who charge $100 for a logo are ruining the industry. For one they are probably garbage and two, they are ruining it for the rest of the industry.

Also check out this link for using a logo or word mark

You need to add a few more of those sparkly things that appear when light hits something. Then you are done.

I think the logo is tattoo worthy and not much more. My thoughts pretty much mirror what others have said. It almost comes across bikerish - not sure if that is the image you are trying to portray.

Perhaps you should have a contest for your car washing services?

Here's another attempt from me. Just let me know I'm heading in the right direction.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you do this for a living.

Maybe I could hold a contest, say throw in a Winter Prep Package for the winner with certain terms and conditions.

thats a good idea to have a contest.

maybe instead of wings, have plooms of air coming out from the e, sort of like an air ride venting pressure and add air lines around the armour background of the e.??? just a thought :D

I am not a fan of the wings, it's fine on Bentley's and some Hyundai's but as the basis of a business logo, not sure it really works .
What about something like the Orange County Choppers OCC logo, but an ECC ? Or something emphasizing the elevated ? Car on a cloud ?

Personally. I think it needs to be simpler.

Sorry I didnt mean the text of the actual company name. I meant the font, didn't use the right word the first time.

exactly this.

just pay a graphic designer to design something simple for you, because this isn't working.

Nice. Try black and gold?

mazdabetty
10-03-2012, 11:48 AM
Interesting, it's definitely better!

Personally, I would maybe not highlight the first letter of each word, maybe ELEVATED is in red and CAR CARE is just in black, if not all the type in black or 80% grey. Maybe the icon isn't so overbearing and just becomes an accent to a wordmark?

I was going to suggest checking out a couple of our other sponsor logos as far as creating an icon goes for your business... You don't really need an icon or image to represent yourself, Nextmod and Simply tire have two very recognizable, simple wordmarks that work very well for their businesses. This concept is interesting though, with some more work on the typography you might have something here!
