Ballast will work, but Phil is correct about flickering being an issue. There are workarounds.

i generally i always drive with my lights on the on position rather then on auto, would the high beams flicker when the lights are set to on and high beam turned on?

what is the work around, adding a relay or something?

You have to add an anti-flicker cap between the stock harness and the HID kit if you want to keep the high beams on as your drls.

Hidcanada.com builds an error canceller that is pricey but will do the trick without having to hack together your own harness.

I have plug and play kits for my highs. My drls just don't turn on.

Also keep in mind HIDs are not the best for high beams in all situations. They are not good for flashing people or flash to pass because of the slow start up and wear and tear on the system.
Alternatively, if you drive around with your high beams on for long periods of time they should be great.

If your low beams are in the ON position, your DRL will be off. Then you can turn the high beams on/off like normal. But without the anti flicker capacitor you will have problems in AUTO during the day, and in PL or OFF at any time.
