View Full Version : Anyone use a BlackBerry 9900 with their Mazda3 Bluetooth?

I've goofed around with the Bluetooth and am trying to add contacts from my BlackBerry to voice dialing. Only problem is that it is asking me to import a contact to the audio system, that I'm supposed to select a contact to add. Only problem is that the Bluetooth shuts off at around this time and I'm not sure how to add it from my BB.

Does anyone know the process on how to do this? (And no 'Get an Iphone/Android' jabs, I work for RIM and will not appreciate them here)

Thanks

dont worry.. the mazdas work worse with iphones then they do with the blackberrys i find.. and im pretty sure its on there list of phones that suck with there bluetooth system. as far as importing contacts i thought you had to put them in number by number. need to read my manual again...

any news on the blackberry 10? :D ( im waiting to get rid of my blackberry 9000)

There is an option to import contact and it says to consult your smartphone manual on how to set it up for import. Just wondering if anyone has been able to do that before.

With a headset, I used to be able to say keywords to make calls. Don't know why I can't do that here.

stupid question but did you read and try the section in the manual 6-93/94 about importing contacts? there is also more info on page 6-97/98 about phone book editing.
1. press talk or pick up button
2. say (beep) phonebook
3. prompt - select one of the following, new entry, edit, list names, delete, erase all or import contact
4. say: (beep) import contact
5. prompt "ready to recieve a contact from the phone"
6. device ( mobile phone) operation: select one entry from the phonebook and send it using bluetooth
7. prompt: "x(number of locations which include date) numbers have been imported. what name would you like to use for these numbers?"
8. say: (beep) "xxxxxx.. (ex marys phone") ( say a voice tag for the name registered)
9. prompt " adding xxxxx (ex marys phone) ( voice tag) is this correct?
10. say (beep) "yes"
11. prompt: "number saved. would you like to import another contact?"
12. say: beep "yes" or "no"
13. if yes then procedure proceeds to step 5 / if no the procedure proceeds to step 14
14. prompt: " returning to main menu"

i know on my old bold if i go to bluetooth options and to the one thats set up for my car there is an option to transfer contacts

"6. device ( mobile phone) operation: select one entry from the phonebook and send it using bluetooth"

This is the step I'm having trouble with.

There is no option to send contact via Bluetooth because the Bluetooth connection on the car audio shuts off at this time. The car audio states to look at the phone documentation unfortunately, the documentation I have is light on this subject.

Ok so I tried transferring contacts from Bluetooth Options. It ends up trying to transfer ALL contacts, not just one. Any way you can set it to only send one contact?

Thanks

sadly i can only help you about the car side and direct you where i found my transfer contacts.. but.. i dont know.. you work at RIM that would be a question i would ask you. but i dont have contacts transfered to my car so i dont know if it would do one or all or what. see if when you go through the phone book options if you can make any changes to it. only other thing would be when you are paired go through the phone book to the contact and menu down to send and see if there is a send to bluetooth. other then that is on the phones side to have an option or if it does all or nothing. see what a co-worker says.

"Due to the ongoing development of BB OS10 and the continual progress of their future generation of phones, RIM has decided to change their name to Research in Progress.

Stock symbol being changed to RIP."

In all honesty, I hope RIM makes a comeback. as an I.T. Admin, they're the easiest mobile devices to manage. ... (I use android myself, lol)

Booter, everyone assumes that since I work for RIM, I know BlackBerry inside and out. I have no visibility to product development (I'm an IT Analyst) and I have no clue when the release date of BB10 will be.

I did look at individual contacts to see if I could transfer them one at a time. The option is not available (or not programmed in), unfortunately.

My Co-worker's fiance also has a Mazda 3 with a BB9700 and she was able to set up her contacts successfully. Maybe I'll find out what she did.

Switch to a droid.

IMHO, they are easier to use then any blackberry.

Iphone works fine with the stock systems. I use one for media only

Not an option as the BlackBerry is a Company one. That and the fact that I didn't ask for that kind of advice.

Make sure that the car is stationary and the engine is off. I'm pretty sure there is a safety feature that prevents you from doing some BT configuration when engine is on, so you don't drive and try to import contacts at the same time :)

thanks r4bbit - but the problem is they are trying to import 1 contact not the whole phone book, which they have not figured out yet i believe. they would already know about the first step to pair. but yes you are not able to do the setup while driving.

Ah, I think I had the same problem with my BB Pearl when I first got my car. I ended up just adding one contact and give up :D

The car Bluetooth should not shut off at that point...at least mine doesn't. It stays on and waits for several minutes before timing out. Perhaps have someone with a different phone pair it with the car and attempt to import a contact; that will narrow down whether the problem is internal to the car's software or if it relates to your phone / the connection.

Also, I work for RIM too and own a droid and swear by it. I see it as something our company should try and live up to :)

Oh also...if you can get the Bluetooth to not shut off, these directions will work to send one contact at a time via Bluetooth:

Tried that. Only option is email.

I basically gave up on this and just added contacts manually. At least there are only certain number of people who I usually speak to while driving (wife, carpool buddy, family, a couple of close friends).

At least you weren't given a ticket for making a phone call while parked on the side of the road. Officer had the balls to say that the engine had to be OFF, otherwise the vehicle was considered to be "in motion".

:chuckle:bang your in motion when in park.. thats the best thing ive ever heard. either way.. park is park smart guy. it would only move in drive in the engine is on.. or if drive in the engine is off going down a hill.. think i would have been :chuckle way to hard to even take the ticket.

Yes I did. Officer did not show up. I'm sure I would have won that one anyway. We'll never know.
