Help! my HID's at night flicker then shut off!

Hey so the title pretty much explains it all. sometimes one side will flicker for a minute then shut off, then the other one will shut off a little later. but if i turn the light settings to off then back on, they will turn back on no problem. i tried checking the fuse but it looks good to me no crack in the fuse. has any first gen Mazdaspeed3 owner experienced the same issue I'm having? let me know.

i did, last night i had to drive from barrie to richmond hill on the 400 with only my fogs.. thank god those are pretty bright too.

All I can say is that the bulb and the ballast is not cheap, I cant remember exactly the price but I know it was a couple of hundred dollars for each

most likely your ballasts need to be replaced. pm flipdaddy (joe at mazda of toronto) and see how much the oem is with discount. 'cheaper' alternative is getting a matsushita (panasonic) ballast from TRS - same as oem :

well i got the car back in may.. to me they look oem. there is no warranty left on the car it has 87000km

If your fog lights are HIDs, they aren't OEM. That's probably what's flickering...

its funny you reply to this thread yesterday.. driving home today my right side headlight hid goes out. my fogs are hid too. im just gonna go to a specialist this is the third time this has happened. should i go see jimmy?

Jimmy won't do anything for you... You might need to buy a new kit at NextMod. Does it happen mostly in wet weather?

I just started getting this issue today on my driver side headlight so I've been searching...but it was raining today so I'm curious, since you said this, how does the wet weather affect it and how can i fix/prevent it from happening again? That is if it's the conditions, not just a coincidence

to re open this thread, i ended up ordering from the retrofit store. costed $220 with new ballasts and 6000K bulbs. no cheap chinese shit, all the reviews are 5 star.

fack, i ordered the wrong ones. just called and they have mitsubishi ones for our cars. $240 for the ballasts.

I believe the OEM ballasts in our cars are Matsushita (made by Panasonic iirc), not Mitsubishi.

The Retrofit Source has the Gen V Matsushita ballats for $170 for the pair. That's probably the best place to buy them.

nope, i spoke with them on the phone and those are the wrong ones. our cars take mitsubishi ones and they sell them for $240.

Who did you speak with? Are you sure they're correct? Because I literally had the ballasts right in front of me and they were Matsushita. Unless the MS3 and MZ3 ballasts are different or maybe they changed them at some point during production. My GT is a 2011..

they are probably different cause mine is a genwone and it says mitsubi. probably different!

Probably a wiring harness issue. Bad ground, corroded wire, broken wire, etc...

Maybe try and find a wiring diagram and try and take a look at some of the connections and grounds.
