So i just installed 2 amps, 4 speakers, new speaker wire and a sub.

Everything worked fine for about 5 min then all of a sudden the 4ch amp shut down. I shut everything down and checked all the wires, everything was good. Tried it again and same thing.

Ive tried swapping the remote wire to the one the 2ch is runnig off of( google search said to) but the same problem.

It wouldnt bother me so much if both amps are shutting down, would be easier to figure out.

Im running 2g power, split with a distribution block into 4g to run the amps, and 4g ground from each amp to the seat bolt.). Im going to double check the ground tomorrow but i did sand it all down and everythings so it should be ok. Would a poor ground really cause 1 amp to shut down and not both though?

Any suggestions on what else i can check.

check and make sure you have more then 10v going to both your amps, amplifiers need atleast 9v to turn on.

could the amp be over heating? i know with my buddys sony amp the thing would over heat if it was mounted to a box, shut down within ten mins

JNo chance of over heating. Trunk wide open, it was during testing stage. Thanks for the 9v thing. Will check for sure.

Any chance of speaker wire mix up( +\-) causing this. There is only one speaker I'm only 99% sure of being correct. The other 3 are 100% correct. The speakers work fine when the amp is on.

It seems it's more likely to happen when loud. But still happens when quiet.

Thanks.
I'm gonna triple check all wires tomorrow and give it another shot. If not another member said he would help me figure out the problem.

sounds like your amp may be "clipping" it turns off as a safety feature, give it a proper tune, turn all your gains, bass to 0 on the amp, turn your cd player to 75-80% volume, and adjust your gain on your amp until you hear distortion then tune it down a bit. give that a try as well

I really hope that is the problem.

Also, Check and make sure you have your speakers wired correctly, (Amps will overheat if they're run at too low resistance (if its an 8 ohmn amp, and you're running subs @ 2ohmn, it'll cut out quickly.

Check your ground. Sounds like the amp goes into protection, then turns back on because its not overheated. Make sure your bolted to a seatbelt bolt or something heavy. Make sure there's no paint in the contact as well. You want a clean connection.

I've bolted the ground to the seat bolt ( located in the trunk at the back of the seat) and ground down to bare metal with a dremel, it's a pretty heavy duty bold. I've triple checked the speaker wires, RCAs remote wire and disconnected the second amp. swapped the ground and power to from the working amp to the non working one.

Still no luck.

I've also turned the gain right down on the amp.

If I turn up the volume it turns off instantly, if it's low it takes about 45s to shut down.

Good to know you did it right the first time.

Pull all your speaker wires. Yes, all of them. Connect ONE speaker at a time to each channel, testing every speaker individually.

What speakers are you running, with what amp?

All pioneer.
TS-D1602R fronts and I forget the rears. But they are direct swap for Mazda. And the amp is gm6400f

What am I hoping to accomplish by testing the speakers separately.

Ok never mind. For some reason everything works fine now. All I did was put my car back together and now it works.

you might have a break in the speakerwire - do all the speakers have roughly the same volume if you max out each one with fade/balance?

Yup all the same volume. This morning I pulled all the speakers and wire ( pain in the ass through the molex. ) to check for a break. No clue what was happening. I did disconnect the dist block to screw it into place then reconnect it. But it wasn't any tighter then it was before.

None the less. Works great now. No problems even on bust.

Thanks for all the help guys.
