So I've purchased my winter wheel setup which cosists of 205/55/16 nokian hakkapelitta r tires and a set of steelies. I was contemplating painting the steelies before I mount the tires. Should I leave them black or paint them? Considering doing a grabber green lime. What y'all think?

I wouldn't bother painting steelies. Buy some hubcaps and get get a Gucci vinyl over them.

Personally I think steelies are ugly and I wouldn't paint them a colour to get attention.

+1. Unless you have an alloy or aftermarket rim I would leave them a darker colour.

Considering black steelies are powder coated (durable), i wouldn't bother painting them (not durable)

I guess that makes sense not to paint them such a bright color because of such a large surface area.
but on the other hand, I doubt it would look bad on white.
Army green wouldnt look too bad. Not a bad idea lol

I found the paint on my OEM steel wheels - both sets, summer and winter - is nothing special. It got dull and started showing rust stains pretty quick. If you want your wheels to keep looking in good condition I'd recommend a couple coats of good quality outdoor/rust paint like Tremclad, Rustoleum, Krylon etc. Duplicolor engine enamel is very durable as well.

Colour is up to you but fluorescent paints do not weather well and turn chalky very quickly. On wheels exposed to salt and slush I expect they'd look pretty rough before the end of the first winter.

Why don't you Plastidip them just for giggles and if you don't like it just peel the Plastidip off.

well the snow started here and the temp has dropped so I decided to put the steelies on. Wintermode is in full effect with nokian hakkapeliitta r tires and removed the front lip. Drove home and these tires are awesome. Super quiet. I might just leave the steelies black now. Maybe next year I'll go with purple.

Don't bother with plastidip. Waste of time
