Hey gang,
I am looking to upgrade my stereo. First off I do not want to be running any kind of subwoofer. I am looking strictly to get the best sound quality out of aftermarket speakers with no modifications. I am already running some 5x7 infinities in the rear doors.
1. Am I crazy using stock head unit?? Should I upgrade to something else?
2. 4 channel amp is necessary ya?
3. Can I leave tweeters stock? Not much for replacements that will fit in stock speaker hole?
Thanks
What would you suggest for speakers in the front door?

You should switch to aftermarket deck it helps with installs.
Yes a 4 channel amp helps, you can deliver more wattage if needed.
I like alpine components. But you should try out each component and hear which is best. Typically a good set up is full range; high and mid for components, high for tweeter and sub for lows (even just one helps)
For tweeters I don't know much about aftermarket kinds but I'm sure with modifications + panel from dealership you can have any tweeter fit.

I recommend getting an aftermarket hu which one depends on your budget and needs. This unit will help power your aftermarket speakers. If you'd like even better sound get a 4 channel amp to power them.
Here are the speakers in my 3:

These are not powered by an amp but by the hu (clarion nx501) and they sound great. The front speakers in my car are component speakers. I have an amp to power the 12" sub but that doesn't seem to interest you (atm;)).

Upgrade the HU. it makes a world of difference.

Low power hu = distortion. The more powerful your hu is, the cleaner the signal will be.
IMO, a new HU will probably make a bigger difference than upgraded speakers

Like sawatsky said getting a new hu should be the first step in your stereo upgrade. It was a night and day difference when Dave installed a pioneer deck for me. Hopefully Dave will see this thread and chime in.

Yes and no.
I bought the harness for steering wheel controls.
The LCD still displays the temp. And once I set it up correctly will display the clock. ( it did until I disconnected the battery)

I don't have a boss system. It makes things a little tougher but I wouldn't be able to comment on that.

simple and cheap? fade to the front to 3 or 4 and turn the bass to 3 and the treble to 6. sounds great

If you type LCD screen in search everything you need to know is their about the LCD screen

Please do it in this order.
Head unit
Speakers
4 Channel Amp
If you have a bose system I did a sticky on how to wire the harness and also did a sticky on how to keep the LCD in Gen 1's.
I've helped a lot of people with HU's and some of them have commented on here. If you want to fine tune your system get some dynamat for your doors and your system will sound incredible.

I picked up a double DIN pioneer unit!! Installing this weekend..
I am now on the hunt for component speakers for the front as that seems what most people are running.. My question is are the tweeters that come with usually direct stock replacements or is there modifications needed to be done? I would ideally like to keep the outside stock cover the same. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Normally there's mods that need to be done to fit new tweeters. Whether it's just an issue of popping(probably cutting) the old tweeters out of their location and plugging the new one in place, or more work needs to be done would depend completely on the tweeter.
