wondering if anyone has had this issue, when decelerating/coasting it feels like it's getting slower abnormally quick? only have 11k on my 2012 mazda 3 for reference but it def feels very weird

yeah ive noticed this sometimes on my car, albeit older and more KM then yours. feels like downshifting in a manual car so i dont mind it too much lol

check alignment, i noticed my coasting sped/difference improve after my alignment.

mine is more abrupt then that tho which is why i find it strange. like I will suddenly feel it getting a lot slower or something

have had Allen @ simply tire test drive it, he felt the weird deceleration but he said it wasn't related to my tires or alignment. I specifically asked him about alignment but he said it's fine. He did say he felt the strange deceleration as well even tho I didn't even tell him about it. Something about the engine tightening up and still breaking in? Would it not more than broken in by now

Jack it up and spin the wheels to see if they are moving freely. If they slow down too quickly, it could be the brakes or something else catching. If you don't feel comfortable doing that bring it to a trusted mechanic (like Jimmy) to check it out.

^ could be sticky brakes. when your done driving for the day feel the wheels and see if theyre warmer than usual.

do you hear any abnormal noises? do you see any abnormal amounts of brake dust on the wheels, as in more on one side then te other?

If you have a Skyactiv with auto transmission, this has been brought up before. The auto has a dual-clutch setup (along with an aggressive torque converter) so engine braking is much more effectively transmitted to the wheels than traditional autos where the engine basically freewheels while coasting. This could be what you are feeling.

if only that was the issue, too bad i don't drive skyactiv, regular 2.0 :/ especially in the lower speeds, it feels like the car is being bogged down somehow

the brake dust ill have to check, don't recall hearing anything weird tho. It definitely feels tire/brake related tho. When accelerating it feels like the engine has to work harder as well

What are the symptons of the engine having to work harder? Do you mean it feels sluggish when pulling away from a traffic light?
Do you drive the car alot or do you do a bunch of short trips?

I wouldn't say there are symptoms per say, well except for my fuel economy being worse than it was before (granted its never been that good to begin with) but yeah, like when pulling away from a traffic light or any stops it definitely doesn't feel like a smooth process

I drive the car every day pretty much.

keep in mind it is getting colder and with the colder weather you are going to get worse fuel economy. That comes with the winter. But also just something to keep in mind when I had the 3 (2.0l 2010 model) as a rental it did feel sluggish and i found the fuel economy was not the greatest compared to my 05 3. However the rental was auto my cars have always been stick
This not feeling smoothe business is still somewhat confusing me. I would check with something simple like the air filter as if that gets clogged up it can cause some of your symptons.

Got the k&n filter like a month ago so it wouldnt be that for sure. I've always had bad fuel economy since I got the car really, tho its taken a hit since this issue has been coming up. When I say bad, I've only seen 400km one time on a full tank, since I've been tracking never seen under 11.5L/100 and I dont even push the car that hard. It would make sense if the issue was connected.

My 10 sedan with the 2.5l got worse mileage then that. The rental 2.0l I had didnt do that much better either.
Poor fuel economy/sluggish acceleration can be caused by the maf sensor, 02 sensor, or plugs but you would have some sort of warning like an engine light
The fuel economy that you are providing doesnt seem to be that far off from what I have been used to.
Do you keep on top of your tire pressures? Have you switched to a different tire and rim setup? This could play a role

if you do more city driving than your mileage wont be great but i do think 11.5 is a bit on the high side especially for a newer car

I have the 2012 skyactiv with auto and i feel a strange hiccup when it decelerates to 50km and then another hiccup at 30km. Is that the feel for it? or do I have to work it in? i have about 3000km on it

If you notice the tachometer rising each time you feel the jump, then yes it's normal.

I bet it's downshifting during gentle deceleration

Dynames

Yeah I think its when its downshifting during deceleration thats the problem. Sometimes its very noticeable, other times its more smooth which is weird. Even on the same trip at times I'll feel its very smooth, other times not so much.

I just had my yearly service done so I'm thinking sticky brakes shouldnt be an issue since they checked the brakes and all that

ECU/TCU updates may fix this... maybe not now, but perhaps in the future as Mazda works on improving the car
