Hi guys, so I got my car about 2 months ago from a used car dealership, and I just went to change my summer tires to winter tires, and found out there are rim locks on the car. They were covered by a small plastic piece that screws onto the rim, so I never saw the lug nuts before this. I called the dealer, and they said to bring the car in, and they will locate the key in the car. I have searched everywhere, glove box, trunk, rear tire, centre console, door cup holders, nothing. So I am certain the dealer will not "find" the key. Has anyone ever run into this problem before?

I believe there aren't actually that many variations on the keys if they are a common or OEM version. Likely the dealership will have a set of masters that can remove the locks.

from the sounds of it you have after market rims if you have to take a plastic cover off to see the nuts. they may have one in the dealer or an extra they can provide.

They aren't a common pattern. That's the thing. It's like a star-shaped lug nut, with the pattern on the outside of the bolt, rather than the regular pattern that is "inside". Hopefully they will have an extra or be able to find it. I'm heading there after work, so I'll see what they say.

Yeah, they are aftermarket. Hopefully they have a spare.

Okay.. Bad news... The dealership doesn't have the key :/.. Any other options? I went to Canadian tire, they said it would be an hour per lug to take it off.. That's almost $500 :/

Try going to a garage or some stores that sells aftermarket rims? Or tire stores?
I had a similar issue (I actually broke my key) and I went to this aftermarket wheel store and they had the key. Got it for $13.

Lol, good deal.
We charge 1 hour for all 4 out here, and I've never had one that took longer than that.

Can you take a picture?
Worse case scenario, Impact socket that's just a little to small and a heavy weighted hammer ( and some one who knows how to swing without missing)
Pound it on and take off the lug. Im sure there is other ways. But that's what I've always done.

I'll look to see what tire stores are in the area. I'll give that a try, thanks.

go to the dealer purchased. or go to a tire shop and see if it can be ordered if they have one, ask any of the tire companys we have as sponsors. send them pictures. see what they can do. but no ones going to jump and tell you how to find it or fix it. you need to do some leg work and go past this thread and ask the many resources on the forum and web.
o wait i just did :P

I already went to the dealer I purchased the car at. No help. I also went to a bunch of different mechanics and shops that couldn't help with no luck. I did however find a shop that helped me out. I went to Wheels Direct at Mccowan/sheppard. Colin tried all of the wheel locks they have there with no luck. After that, he broke off the rim locks and put new ones on! All for a very small and reasonable fee! It's a great rim/tire store with great customer service! I recommend anyone looking for a new tire set up to check them out! Ask for Colin!
Cheers and thanks for all the suggestions that everyone has given!

My suggestion is to make the dealer pay for the removal. They should never have sold you a car without the lug key. And if they don't post a dealer review of them so no one else makes the mistake of buying from them.

if in so doing this make sure to speak with sales, because if you have been dealing with service all this time and sales has no idea they may be blind sided that there is even a problem.

It was only $20, so I'm not even going to bother
Princess Auto had special sockets for removing Effed up wheel locks.
