View Full Version : Dealer Personalization Options

If you read your Owner’s Manual, there should be a section on personalization features. The term may be used liberally, as the personalization is limited and must be done at the dealership. Some examples are if you want to change the language of the displays or not having the interior lights turn on when the key is removed from the ignition. We’ve chosen to make three changes, which cost 30 minutes of paid labor at Mazda service:
1) We reduced the time that the interior lights stay on when the door or doors are left ajar from 30 to 10 minutes. We can’t imagine being in a situation where we will need the lights for that long. Why drain the battery?
2) We chose to have all four doors open with one press of the remote. It’s a hassle to hit the button twice to open the passenger door or the hatch, especially when carrying groceries. I never seem to get the timing right and often end up hitting the button repeatedly and frantically.
3) We chose to have all doors unlock, not just the driver’s door, when the car is in park. We’ve been at customs inspection at the Canada-US border and had to open the hatch only to go through a struggle under stress to figure out why the power hatch button wouldn’t work. “Are you sure this is your car?” the guard asked.
To avoid possibilities of a strip search, we decided it best to pursue these personalization options. I was wondering if any of you have used these options.

I have not done the above but did do the following:
1) Lowered sensitivity of auto headlights
2) Enabled smart turn signal --> best feature
I'm also thinking about enabling the feature where the doors will auto-lock once the smart key is not within the vicinity of the vehicle.

doesn't Mazda only offer 1 free personalization?
the only things i would change would be the auto lock/unlock and
smart turn signal which is really handy

Technically yes, but some dealerships will do it for free (assuming your car is already there for servicing) :)

i did really like the change in the auto head lights. i have mine set to japan low i believe and now that low lights and markers come on before the full headlights come on when its not dark. extended the defroster time to 30 minutes from 15 on the read glass. can go up to 45. took off the seat belt chimes for both seats. enabled smart turn. there is tons of good stuf you can change. not sure where you are located but generally for vehicles we sell, we offer a free setting change in the first year, and can make changes after if requested, ask your dealer that you purchased it from if they will do the same.

I'm my search to see if you can do this on a gen 1. I came across this. Same post on Wordpress. Lol.
Anyone know If any of these things can be done on gen 1.

wouldnt see why they cant be. but some vehicles are different from others. like on the mazda 6 with the keyless remote you can set it so if you hit the button twice or three times maybe it rolls all the windows down. and you can roll them up as well. but the speed 3 and gt 3 with the same key fob cant set up that option. :( if you dont have auto lights you cant set up the smart turn. things like that. there used to be a list of options that i saw a long time ago that sales had for customers if anyone wanted anything changed. ive never been able to find it, i find it easier just to have the car come in, plug it in and see whats availble before saying what can and cant be changed.

I only started hearing about these options with the advent of the 2nd-gen cars. Don't believe it was available before that.

Yep. Actually, looking at my bill, I see that the personalization was done free with other service I was having completed.

Should've gotten this options changed yesterday while on my 'break in oil change'! Need to remind myself next time!

Is the smart turn what I'm thinking of, I.E flip the turner and it blinks a couple times then stops? (for changing lanes) Also anyone know if you can turn the alarm lock beep lower?

Yup, just tap the turn signal and it will blink 3 times for lane changes.
And yes it's possible to lower the alarm lock beep :)

not sure. i wouldnt see why not but ive never had a cx7 with any requests usually only 3s and 6s and we have done my techs parents cx5.
I had no idea we could change these type of settings. I'm going to read through the manual more carefully now.

Hello Everyone
I was just at my dealer (markham mazda) not long ago trying to get the smart turn option but they said it cannot be done on a 2012 sky gs auto, anyone know if the model makes a difference? Anyone able to confirm which dealer CAN make these changes? I kinda like the smart turn and the auto unlock when the car is put in park.
Thank you

Totally had the tech at work activate smart turn signal.. lower the lock tone and it took all of 5 minutes.
The one thing that can be done yourself (well, I can speak for my experience with the 2012 GX) is the auto door lock option.
You turn the ignition "ON", push the door lock and hold it for 10 seconds until you hear a beep, then press it the amount of times equal to the option you want. Than, you'll hear the number of beeps to confirm your selection. Switch ignition "OFF" and you're all set.
I *THINK* :
option 1 is auto-lock ON but auto-unlock (when you shut off the car) OFF
option 2 is auto-lock completely OFF
option 3 is factory default (auto-lock and unlock ON)
options 4 and 5 are for auto tranny, involves what happens when thrown in "P" but I forget which is which since I can't drive auto.
Again, I may have these the wrong way around. I did this as soon as I took delivery and forgot about it. I thing the different options are listed in either the driver manual or service manual (ie: 1, 2 ,3 ,4 and 5 and what they mean)
So far, I haven't found similar "do it yourself" tricks for other personalization features.

I asked Davewood Mazda if they could do it when I was getting a oil change, they said they would have to charge me(didn't ask how much) and that it should of been done when the car was delivered. So I blame Markham Mazda. All I want is smart turn and alarm sound lowered :( (it's freaking loud).

i dont think you can change the horn tone. i believe its either on or off. but if you hit the key fob once it flashes twice it beeps. so just hit the lock button once and then it wont honk.

Wonder why Canadian models would be restricted to only models with auto lights. A few people on another forum with US-spec models and Australian spec models have had smart turn activated on vehicles without auto lights.

doesn't Mazda only offer 1 free personalization?
How does one get this "1 free personalization"?
When I called Mazda of Toronto to schedule a service, they told me they would charge me $60 + tax for it.
Never mentioned a free personalization at all.
Maybe other dealers are more reasonable?

My sales person was very nice and friendly while we were buying the car (some 6 months ago).
When I called him about the personalization, he very politely told me that he doesn't know anything about it and that I should talk to service.
In his words: "I sell cars", with the implication that, since he already sold me a car, I shouldn't bother him further.
That's when I tried posting here.
