I called to talk to a sales rep regarding a pre-certified mazda 3 i saw on the website and was given Altof (i believe), was told the car was in mint condition one owner, all the usual as well as it included mazda pre-certified warranty and was explained to what it all entailed. Right away told me he would drop $1000 off the price and i told him it was still a bit high and if that's the best he can do then ill continue looking. He told me he will do better just needs to talk to his manager but will do if i am willing to at least test drive the car. I agreed and told him i will call him back to tell him when i would be able to make it up to ajax next.

I then called to tell him and he asked me to come in an hour earlier because he would be busy. I told him no coming from Mississauga and getting off work, 7:30 would be the earliest i could make it. Checked out the car for any damage with a buddy of mine and took it for a test drive. When we started talking money he informed us that the $1000 is the most he can drop off it (was fine with it, not thrilled) because his manager said that was the most he can do, when i brought up the pre-certified warranty he informed us it will not come with it and only if we pay a "small" fee we would get it. When asked he said it would be $750 plus HST. When told this was totally thrown off because i assumed it would included in the price. The buddy and i downplayed the car asking if he could do any better take off anything he saw and he said no that manager said that was the most he took off because $1000 is a lot on a <10 000 car. Told him we would think about it and decided to leave. He gave us a settle hint that he will be there a while longer because he had another person coming for a test drive. Went to the parking lot and was talking to the buddy for a while then we noticed Altof leaving in his car. We were amazed that he lied about something so trivial instead of telling us he would be there for a bit if we decided to change our mind.

I Later called Whitby mazda and pm's Jeff the biz regarding fee's for pre-certified cars and whitby mazda salesman informed me there are no fees for a pre-certified mazda's that were eligible. Jeff the biz offered to help me if i had any more questions or needed him to do anything.

I later recalled Altof to ask him why he was charging me $750 for the warranty if it should be free, and he got pissed off saying i wasted his time because my buddy and i were not interested (had certified cheque and cash on me) and told him the car wasn't a good car. I told him no that's not what we said and that's not the purpose of the call. He began to yell at me saying my buddy was discouraging him and that we were talking bad about the car and he only deals with the best cars. as well as a whole bunch of nonsense. I informed him that his "deal" wasn't the best deal as he said and that i was offered a better deal just minutes ago. He asked for the price and told me he would match it and waive all fees so it would be just HST and car price. Told him i would not want to buy a car from someone that started yelling at me out of anger for a question i had, he then said .... i was in the car and there was a lot of loud noises and was talking loudly because i wanted you to hear me correctly. I asked him what he was doing now then because he's not yelling anymore and never answered the question. I told him i just wanted to confront him and find out why he thought it was ok to charge me a fee for something that should be free. He then dropped the price of the car by $50 i told him i don't want the car from him and he proceed to say it was an administrative fee not warranty and i said ok thanks and that's all i have to ask good bye.

30 Seconds later he calls and i don't answer he leaves me a voicemail stating that he wanted to say something and i hung up and that he was sorry for the misunderstanding and that it wasn't just his fault and that me and my buddy were talking bad about the car and felt insulted. He is willing to give me the car for the reduced price plus HST if i was still interested.

He seemed very nice in person but things changed because i changed i confronted him about paying for a warranty that should be free.

That $750 is probably his profit for selling you that car, or the profit between him and the dealership. Don't keep it personal, just walk out and find another car.
Personally I wouldnt feel any safer buying from a pre-certified car from dealer than a random seller off kijiji if I did enough inspection and check up.

I would just go to Whitby Mazda, since they were honest with you. I bought my car there and they have a great team. Or you could just buy from Jeffthebiz.... He seemed like he was ready to help right from the get go.:S
