changed mine in both 3s. simple and easy to do. not sure why it would say that you cant put leds in. should be just a standard bulb i would think.

I literally just put an LED in my license plate and it was plug and play with no issues.
The best part is it even lights up the ground under the plate.

Yup, piece of cake to change and looks way better than stock! Not sure why the manual would say LEDs are not possible.

Plug and play. Get ones where you can return there's certain universal fits that don't fit it either too loose or tight.
. The ones I have are really long and bright so I left the cover at home. No issues since!

In case you guys are wondering what it looks like on a rainy 3pm overcast;

No need to take at night as it's basically a flashlight
looks nice, i wish my 3 had a spot for 2 led's on each side instead of the one in the middle

Does T10 LED light fits the mz3 2012 license plate socket ? i tried them on twice today but they didn't go on, the connection point seems to be longer than the stock bulbs so perhaps they don't fit. I got them from ebay

HAHAHA luckily, you can. if i remember correctly when digging through the junk yard. the pegs that hold the light in the middle, is actually the two inner pegs the hold the 2 lights. there should be another two pegs toward the outside of the car. you now have 4 pegs. and thats what you use to mount the 2 lights.
but if you got bright leds, i dont think itll matter if you got one or two...its still gonna be bright.
Got mine from nextmod. Work nicely

Pictures would help.
Did you try unscrewing the bulb holder and pull to fit them in? You can also take out the whole housing after removing the lens.
I had a problem before of them not fitting in as well as not having a secure connection. Some of the wedges made by china don't have a secure connection which cause the light to turn off on some bumps. Tried tightening the clips ( sk performance helped) but it's the bulbs.
It's better to buy things from a local supplier so you can switch if needed, especially with lights.

LED's are so common now, that there are a tonne of places in the GTA of where you can pick these up.
I replaced the bulbs with LED's for my Mazda5 with NextMod and Garage16, and the G37 were done by SK Performance.

flip it around. LEDs are diods and only work one way unlike filament bulbs. if you cant get the right size then just go to one of the sponsors or pacific mall. bring in your oem bulb and ask for an led replacement. your car takes a 2825 bulb, so a T10 might work. when i install these, i always bend the metal contacts out a bit so the make a connection with the terminals.

yes theres are some that are too bright and end up reflecting off the plate. too much glare and makes them hard to see by people and camera's. how ever, i dont remember if there was a limit on the amount of light out. they just have to be white or amber. no other colour AT all.
also, york cops tend to be "sensitive" to anything done on a car (even oem)

Really? I find them not so bad
In my tibs I was pulled over for my 6000k HIDs and sound system for Durham region multiple times. One even pulled me over cause he thought I was in a Toyota because of the Tuscani emblems.
One thing I also find with Durham when one cop car shows up. Like 5 more show up. Not a lot goes down here often but when it does they come in packs

It depends on where you view the plate but there was no glare for me, dirty or not. Light from other headlights hitting it is brighter than the led illuminating it. If anything the light from the headlights would make a glare more than the led.
I just bought led license plate lights again but this time they're the 2 led long one instead of the 3 so I can fit my lense on top of it. They're 20 bucks from pmall.
If you want cheap then go to ebay and wait a month for them to ship it. If you want fast then go to a local supplier, again as others said; there's g16, Nextmod, sk performance, pmall.
Cheap takes long, mild is faster.
If you're scared of the cops bothering you or glare then spray plastidip smoke over it.
I'd rather have glare on plates than black out my tails and have nobody seeing my ass at night.
It's just a matter of problem solving.. if it glares, then unglare it (remove your plate cover, dremel a hole, spray it)
By the way in case you're wondering what bulb then it's T10. Make sure you get the paperclip wire ends that are bent over rather than get the solid metal contacts as those were loose on my holders.

you shouldnt have any problems from the law if you stick with white ONLY. okay, ill admit it....i riced out waay back and had blue lights since it was a starting trend...... needless to say, its a $130 ticket...but they threw it out in the end.
the only problem that you can get from the law is the a plate cover (clolored/tinted), light colour other than white (or slight amber), and or how dirty/visible the plate numbers and stickers are. plate location is debatable but pretty strict, since its suppose to be at the front most of the vehicle. but people have gotten ticket from RHO plates before.

so heres wat i mean, not sure if you can see it clearly though... the two holes your see next to the light. those are the inner mounts where the two lights will hook up left and right. there are two other mounts further out that your light hooks up too.

I'm wondering if I should change mine - I have a light blue plate cover though. Will the glare be too much? Don't want to draw attention from the police because yeah, I know the blue is not really allowed but I didn't want to pay $20 for clear ones...

So can anyone tell me how to remove the license plate light cover? I have a 2014 3gt. What I tried was on either lens cover I place the screw driver on the right side and pry to the right. I put some force on it, but it felt like I was putting too much and I stopped because I didn't want to break anything. Any help would be appreciated.

do you have a picture of the light itself? i see from the pictures online the plate is now on the hatch instead of the bumper. Not sure how different it is from older gens, it should just slide off if you lift the clip, no?

I installed these yesterday on my gen1. I wanted to see if they were lighting up this morning (maybe I'd have to switch the polarity). I was under the impression these lights only go on if the headlights are on since they're meant for nighttime. Correct me if I'm wrong?? When do these bulbs light up?
I started the car, turned on the headlights, went to the back of the car and didn't see any lighting at all. It was morning so it would be hard to see, but I'm quite sure they weren't on.
Think its coincidence both polarity needs to be switched?? Or if I just installed these wrong? I did have a bit of a struggle twisting back in the connector after putting in the new bulbs but I'm sure its on correctly and properly now.

They light up when you turn on your parking lights. You might have to flip the bulbs around for them to work. If not check the wires on the bulbs. I had to pull them away from the base so that they stick out a bit to make contact with the bulb holder/circuit.

In models that are not equipped with auto lights the license plate lights are only turned on when you switch on your lights.

They are actually a simple plug and play install.. the instructions on your manual sounds strange.. You can get LEDs in toronto, from pmall, nextmd or mtr lighting & performance, or you can try buying them online from ebay, etc.
