Power Steering Issue?

Hey TM3,

Recently I noticed when I turn my steering wheel while stationary, or at a very slow speed, my wheel suddenly becomes very difficult to turn. Just yesterday for a brief second or two, it felt like I had no power steering at all and had to wrestle my steering wheel to turn the car. Is there something wrong with my power steering? And how would I fix this? It's a 2005 Mazda 3 GT with roughly 118,000 KM's on it.

Your car doesn't fall into the recall, but the good news is that the parts aren't that expensive.

TM3 price on the required parts is $111.30 plus tax.



New power steering main line
Rebuilt power steering pump
Line copper washers

Might as well add $10 for steering fluid on top of the other parts pricing.

Mine makes a whirring kinda noise when turning in either direction at very slow speeds and giving the slightest of pressure on the gas pedal ... but as soon as I let off the gas, and its rolling on its own, the noise goes away (while still having the wheel cranked in either direction).
Thinking its the pump ... hoping the list of stuff you listed above is all I need and off to Jimmy for re&re.

Forgot to mention this. Mine does that also with the noise and acts identical to how you describe it. I'm thinking about bringing it to Jimmy also since I live in Markham.

Ya, but mine's a 2010 Speed3. Funny thing is that I had the same problem with my '07 GT Sedan which I traded in for the Speed3.

Have any of you guys experiencing issues with your power steering ever replaced your power steering fluid?

Not yet... but on my list of things to do... but this problem has been happening for well over a year now with my car... no errors, steering works fine, but pump makes noise under very light throttle and steering wheel turned in either direction.
