View Full Version : Anyone with an amp under the front passenger seat?
Anyone with an aftermarket amp under the front passenger seat had any problems due to its location?
My 2 channel amp was installed under the seat. I am concerned about the location because it is near a heat source (catalytic converter) , possible contact with water (snow from boots of rear passenger) and abuse (rear passenger accidentally kicking it, as the amp is located way back).
Relocating to the trunk is the best solution but cost money. I am thinking of putting a rubber carpet over the amp when I have passengers in the back to prevent water getting in contact with the amp.
Installer told me the Bose amp is located under the passenger seat. I believe Bose amp came with new Mazda 3, mine is 2009.

Not so sure that you want to cover your amp, they need a little space to dissipate the heat.

IMO relocate.
Probably the easiest and safest solution.
I was told by a few installed ( not on here) to not locate the amp under the seat for the reasons you said. Heat and water.

i had an amp under each seat mounted on acrylic with legs about an inch off the floor.
never had any issues with water, getting kicked or overheating.
my reasoning for mounting it there was for shorter run of wires and it was stealthy :)
cant really see it unless you get down on your knees and look under the seats.
power down the middle and signal/speaker wire on either side.
ran this setup for about 4 years.

The Gen1 speeds came with bose. The amp is under the driver seat, and the sub is under than pax seat. I ripped out the sub and put an aftermarket amp in its place. I have mine on a small plywood shelf to prevent blocking the floor vent. Its invisible, and the temp regulation is actually much better than in the trunk or whatever. Only issue is that on one or two occasions I have had people sitting in the back rip the wires out when flailing their feet around. Not sure how they managed that, but I'm sure if I had spent a bit more time ensuring it was really idiotproof this wouldnt be a problem

I've had my 4 channel amp under the passenger sea for about 2 years now. No issues what so ever, I like the idea that I can easily change the settings if need be and I have it on four legs that I made out of MDF so that it doesn't block the heat vent. No issues so far with people kicking it, especially if you move it as forward to the front of the car as you can. Also the cut in the carpet under the seat allow for some sort of wire management for the amp when running wires under the carpet.

I have the most ghetto install ever involving a under passenger seat amp, risk of being kicked is high, water in the winter is a real problem. Basically keep your passengers short and your other passengers drivers side in the winter, in the summer your're pretty golden. I'm not so much regretting the placement of my amp so much as Im regretting a lack of consideration about blocking the hvac and making sure its not kickable.

Im regretting a lack of consideration about blocking the hvacJust make a mini shelf for it and you're set...

Back seat. Get it done right. Its like $80 to re work an amp. Thats nothing to worry about with regards to car audio.

If anyone wants to move their amp from under their seat to another location just give me a call. If you have enough cable, we can do it in under an hour. If you need new cables, less than two hours.
Every car and set up is different so I would have to see it to properly quote bit if its bothering you, call us up.
