2012 mazda 3 sky auto and as title says, I was driving like usual today and suddenly the traction control light came on which I thought it might due to the slippery condition but then I quickly realized the car decelerated(without touching the brake) relatively quick as if using engine braking method! Tried to accelerate but engine didn`t respond but heard the engine revs up, luckily I was at the mall so able to stopped the car and let it rest for like 10 minutes. When restarted, the check engine light came on so I called up the dealer and was told it will be safe to drive as long as engine light doesn`t flash. Anyhow, car felt fine on the way home( 20 mintues drive) except for the check engine light! Any ideas what might went wrong? thanx any help!!

if its still on, just disconnect battery, push gas/brake pedal down to get rid of any charge quickly. reconnect battery, cel should be gone. hopefully its a one time thing. if it happens again, get the code read or take it to dealership.
culprit might be abs not functioning properly?

dont try to clear the light. this is a new car. take it to the dealer and have it scanned and cleared. doesnt do any harm if the light is on. but if you clear it and it gets wiped from the system they cant tell you why it was on. get it checked first before trying to clear it yourself.

Thanx for the replies, first thing in the morning will be taking it to the dealer(second would be figure out how to get to work as dealer don`t provide courtesy car :() to see what`s wrong. Hopefully nothing major but will definitely report back if anything worth attention of other sky owners.

Just a little update coz i thought it might interests some current and future sky owners and frankly, I'm really hoping this is an isolated case and won't be affecting any others!
After 6 hours of tests and communications between dealership and mazda canada. I was told by the service rep over the phone that mazda canada decided replace the transmission of my sky3. I was a bit shock at first as the car has less than 20,000 km. Anyhow
, delivery should be around new year time. Hopefully nothing else major will happen!

and why would you want to give this bad advice to this person? there's clearly something wrong with the car... getting rid of the light will eliminate all clues as to what's wrong with the car!

... i just suggested to reset it as it mite be a one time thing. saying that my opinion gives this forum a bad name is kind of childish, especially from a senior sponsor.

i think they just mean that the car is under warranty and for something like that why try the self fix. take it to the dealer and have it scanned and fixed is all

thats cool. honestly i thnk thats the way to go, but i was suggesting a fast fix in the hopes that it was a one time deal. for some reason, mcguyver believes i am a bad person. :D

I am a mechanic by trade and that had to be one of the dumbest ideas ever to simply clear the codes. There are several members here that have portable scanners and if OP had asked I am sure someone would have scanned it for OP. even If after scanning they got a dealer specific code they could have taken it to the dealer and gotten it scanned. If it is something serious regardless of flashing or not it could continuously make the problem worse. For example a thermostat code doesn't flash and it could cause overheating. The gen 2s do not have any coolant guages and when the dummy light does come on it will usually be to late. Fix the problem properly and not just bandaid the problem is what I am gettin at

fair enough. i dont know everything and my suggestion may not have been the best, i was just offering up a possible route of action since no one had posted on the thread for a while. i just hate it when i get personally attacked for trying to help out. that is all.

well.. i think its the 2011+ that has a hot cold dummy light. blue when cold. then goes off and red when its too hot and too late :bang but no gauges

in any case, expecting problems to go away just by sleeping on it almost never really works

By far do I not know everything but I am not fond of trying to cover things up. The more you try to cover it up the more likely you could be doing more damage. It's almost like maintenance you do it rgularely the car will last, you hold off on it you ony get sofar

I am glad I do not have the blue light as I find that stupid. It goes out when the coolant temp is warm enough. I wish they had stuck with analog gas gauges and put a coolant gauge in

agreed! or at the least the digital bar fuel gauge and a coolant temp gauge. im sure they could have put a digital one just above or below the fuel gauge in similar fashion to the bars.

I even hate the digital gas gauge I miss the analog. It's much more accurate
