Hi all, i need some opinions here, what's the best way to add USB to a 2012 stock radio. I do use blue tooth sometimes and have some mp3 cd's but I'd like to add the convenience of usb( like the 2013's have). Has anyone done this?

be cafeful with this. it says jan 2009. depending on the part number it may not work for a 2010 + as they changed numbers from
2009 -
iPod Adapter2---------------------Requires harness kit-----------------------------F197-79-CFZ
iPod Adapter2 Harness Kit----------Not required if SIRIUS Accessory kit installed-----C9F1-V6-029
iPod Adapter2 Harness Kit----------for vehicles with factory SIRIUS-----------------C9F4-V6-029

2010+
iPod Adapter---------------------Requires harness kit---------------------------BBM2-79-CFZA
iPod Adapter Harness Kit----------For vehicles without Sirius Satellite Radio-------C9FC-V6-029
iPod Adapter Harness Kit----------For vehicles with Sirius Satellite Radio----------C9FD-V6-029

i have added the ipod adapter to my vehicle. but it will only work with an apple product of the older connectors. but it is not a USB, not exactly sure how you would added that. i have not heard of an aftermarket module to add a USB connection like the 2013 has.

YouTube video from a 2010 Mazda http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqskpkRq85Y

NewEgg.com sells them too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0920GD1810. You won't be able to order them unless you have a US confirmed address from PayPal.

More xpensive on Ebay http://www.ebay.ca/itm/GROM-Mazda-2008-2012-USB-Bluetooth-Android-iPod-Car-Adapter-/121056931101?pt=US_Tablet_AV_Cables_Adapters&hash=item1c2f8e2d1d&_uhb=1#ht_4033wt_1139

Shipping is only $7.99 and is USPS so customs will be reasonable http://gromaudio.com/store/shipping.html

Price is the same from NewEgg.com but I am the only person I know that can order stuff from there. I think I am gonna order one from Grom but I am not looking forward to pulling the head unit out of my brand new car. I also like the fact that it will give me an additional AUX input. I am wondering if the USB port should be mounted in the center console or there would be a better place to put it such as under the dash or in the glove compartment? I hope it doesn't have limitations as to how many folders or files on the USB stick. I bought a MP3 player for my Goldwing that hooked up to the CD disc changer so I could control it from the handle bar and there was all kinds of restrictions as to how many files and folders you could use which really frustrated me.

I think that this is going to run into a problem and only be able to handle only up to 6 folders as it is emulating a CD changer. I had this same problem with my Goldwing MP3 player. If this is the case DO NOT BUY IT as it is more headache than it's worth IMO. I am writing the company to confirm.

3.3.5 Basic Features
The GROM USB adapter has the following functionalities:
- Every directory in a root of the USB portable data medium becomes a virtual disc. Playlist on Android
become virtual disc. Please note: directories with non-audio files (e.g., pictures, documents) located in the
root will be recognized as empty virtual discs.
- All audio files within the root directory are enumerated and treated as TRACKS.
- Only six (6) discs are supported on most car stereos.
- Up to 99 discs are supported on some stereos with DISC UP and DISC DOWN buttons. Note that not all
stereos will have this feature.
- The following operations are supported by the GROM USB:
o Change virtual disc/playlist
o Change tracks forward and backward
o Change +/- 10 tracks in SCAN mode
o Display track # and track title where available
o Display current track playing time
o Random and Repeat functionalities
o Restore last positions for up to 4 USB sticks
o Restore last playlist positions in up to 20 virtual discs

I wouldn't do it... I was just going to buy one and it has it's limitations of only being able to have 6 folders I believe. My original posts are waiting to be posted by the moderator as I am a newbie.

This was their response... I am tempted to try one as I hate not having a USB port but don't want to be disappointed again.

On stereos with DISC+/DISC- buttons number of playlists will be up to 99 depending on stereo.
Mazda 08+ firmware allow 99 playlists and up to 9999 tracks/playlist.
