Its amazing how much better this process could be sreamlined. Sadly not in the first four selection groups for tomorrow.........

Why spend vacation days in Cuba, jury selection/duty is where its at.

Haha I'm picturing that clip from family guy of Peter getting out of jury duty,

"Awful lot of blacks in here" followed by everyone staring

Lol

One of the highlights were the people trying to get out of it, know someone in the court, hearing impairments those kind of things. People come up with random shit. Easiest way it seemed to get out was to say you have compromised hearing and without the speaker using a microphone you can't hear them.......everyone excused on the spot.

Today they break us up into groups for selection tomorrow so this wonderful process is costing me at a minimum two vacation days. Giggity.

I thought companies normally allot a number of days for jury duty. It's hard to punish somebody for doing their duty as a Canadian citizen.

Or you could just go with an opening line of "Awful lot of blacks in here" (as per what eSS mentioned). Let us know how that goes.

kkk outfit and thrizzl3 on all fours on a leash calling you daddy. Act very flamboyantly, but with terrets. find the right balance.

too much?

I bet you it'll work. get it on video.

on a serious note, if everyone is trying to get out of dury duty, it really scares me to think of being judged by the people who were selected...

A company cannot terminate your employment, but they do not have to pay you. Since I'm contract I'm up shit creek.

Not too concerned with being picked, they need 14 people (12 jurors, 2 alternates), and 120+ people are being seen before me.

and none of those 120+ people want to be there. remember to say you hate lawyers and that they are evil, lying, etc. show disdain and contempt for the legal participants and process.

Jury duty is stupid. Force people to do something they don't want to, and expect them to make a unbiased decision.

Why not make the people are welfare do jury duty?... on second thought, they are probably not the best choice to make smart decisions...

Good on you for sticking with the process. Yes it sucks, but they need level headed productive members of society on juries. If they filled the jury with unemployed people with nothing better to do, could you count on them to make the right decision?

Everyone else - It's your civic duty. Don't like it? Get out of my country.

How does someone get selected for jury duty anyway? Do they send you a letter saying you're our 1 millionth customer from somewhere and you've won?

You'll be lucky if it's a couple of days, I had a teacher at my high school that was gone for months because of it.

It doesn't bother me if I'm selected (rather not, but out of my hands), the case should be interesting............not like fraud case or anything. Only downfall is a loss of income, which sucks........but could be worse.

For Pokaroo, I was sent a form last summer that asked for updated information as I maybe selected, so I knew it was coming.

You wouldn't say that if you were the defendant ;-)

Thankfully I never have nor ever will have to serve as a juror ... but I can imagine what it'd be like ... yaaaa jury duty does suck

How can you say it's stupid. If a jury didn't exist who would be there to make sure that judges were being fair and to provide unbiased support for a case that may have no other chance. You wouldn't think it's stupid if and when you were relying on a jury.

And that aside...whether it's something we like to do or not, its part of our justice system and as adults it is our duty to help and to do it. Ya it may come at shitty times like in the middle of our Vacation (that blows chunks btw Mr. Wilson I definitely feel for you) but if everyone tried to get out of it which it seems everyone pretty much is anyways...then our justice system will fail more than it currently is.

If you think jury duty sucks you should try being an Israeli citizen.

Guess I should finish this off as the process is now complete.

Overall it wasn't as bad as most make it out to be. Depending on when you are selcted to your smaller group in day one, your day could go from 9am to 11am (I wasn't selected until 12). I had to show up the next day for 15 minutes total.

I asked for an exemption based on being contract and pay (financial hardship). The judge was great and based on that I was let go. To be honest a bit of me that wished to continue through the process.

It sucked that I lost some vacation time, but I did a lot with my free time........only had to give 5 hours of my time (incl travel time) for the entire process.

So as a juror, and based on what you saw and heard, would you have voted guilty or innocent?

Mr Wilson
01-11-2013, 03:45 PM
Since the trial had not started I can't say. We were given the charge, names of the accused, attorneys, witnesses and judge. That's it. No evidence is provided during jury selection.
