So last year I installed the CPE Rear Mount 60 duro. The car changed for the better and the engine felt more planted and vibes came as they should. By now I'm used to all the pros and cons that comes with that mount.
On to the TRZ mount. After reading Donutz's review on this mount I kept returning to read it and listening to that growl that comes with this mount. This happend for a few months as I contemplated, researched and questioned as much as I could about it. I purchased it from protege garage for $99.95, and it came in the mail two weeks later. I still waited and thought about if I really wanted to put this on my car after even more reading and thinking about it.
The install was done by Jimmy at Street Performance, he said it's a fairly easy install. With the right tools and assistance it can be done on a flat drive way. I had my springs installed the same time, so I don't know exactly how long he took to do the install.
First impressions:
When I turned the car on, I heard and felt the rumble from the engine bay. It is loud, it is mean and raw. I did an exterior inspection and the car seemed to have a slight more growl even at idle (although it could just be me expecting something different). The vibrations can be felt through the pedal and shakes your bones to keep you from falling asleep at the wheel. I hear a little clunking when putting it into 1st gear. The clutch does engage a lot smoother and upon releasing the clutch you feel the vibrations and rumbling. Give it gas and the vibrations seem to go down the higher the RPM (rear view mirrors don't vibrate as much as I anticipated).
Now here is the fun part, DAT SOUND! I know that I only drive something called a hatchback, which is N/A, is slow and boring like your ex-girlfriend. But it felt like I was doing a leg at the WRC. The rumble and whining of the gears put a cheese ball grin on my face ;) The shifts are so smooth and the power seems to be going through better. Going up through the gears there was minimal lurch, which is a really good feeling.
As I drove home in rush hour traffic I rolled down my window to hear what it might sound like from the outside, I don't think it makes much difference, but there is a little more rumble behind it (but once again it could just be me). I found an opening on the highway to push the car a little, and OH DEAR!! The sound was smashing... LOL. I don't want to compare it to the sound of a boxer engine, but yeah its got that sound.
Vibrations:
Yes, there are way more vibrations. As I mentioned, it can be felt through all three pedals. Cabin noise is louder and it sounds and feels like a race car. (But still keeping in mind I drive a turtle with wheels). Did not have a passenger sit in the car yet, so we'll see. I bought this car for me, and modded for me. If the passenger doesn't like it, they can take a bus or a cab.
Overall:
There wasn't a single moment after the install when I felt "why have I done this", I love it from the start.
See ya:rolleyes
