2nd gear has problem.

I recently purchased 2012 Mazda3 skyactiv 6speed manual. (now 8000km on it)


when I shift from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 2nd , it feels something is happen between neutral and 2nd gear. (not grinding)

i mean that there is two or three thresholds between neutral and 2nd gear.

this is happended almost 50%. the other 50% is very smooth.

rear gear and 5th gear are having same probelm.(i shift gear when car is stop.)

1,3,4,6 gear is very smooth.


Any suggestions or does it happen to anyone else???

i dont think 2nd gear problem comes from cold weather. (this is happened after driving over 50km)



one of my friend is working for Hyundai car company in korea, and i ask this question to him.

he told me that ususally 2nd gear is stiff because of gear ratio. So, this is normal

reverse is rough in my car too. but that is normal. 5th gear you probably don't use nearly as much so it wont be as worked in. and shifting into second is one of the hardest shifts so it can be tricky to get it smooth. is this your first standard?

YES.. This car is my first manual transmission car.

It's normal. You're probably feeling the synchro engaging, which is 1/2 way between neutral and the gear.

Does it only happen when cold?

Reverse gear can be sticky if you try to shift when the car is not completely stationary.
