View Full Version : Wide A** Wheels and Tires

I know this has probably been done to death however.....

I am thinking about upgrading my wheel and tire package, for the wheels I'm torn between the Enkei RPF-1 or Volk TE37.

As for size......I want to squeeze in a 265/35R18 in all four corners (Stupid? Maybe. Badass? F*ck Yeah!!!) Anyone have any input on this? Offsets, spacers, etc. Car is a Gen 2 Speed 3, stock ride height with no plans of lowering it.

I've done some research and a lot of people are saying the widest that can comfortably be put in is a 245/xx/Rxx. I like to think that anything is possible with some dedication, hard work and bfi (brute force and ignorance). If I can't figure out a way to make it work then I will be keeping my stock wheels and throwing some RT615k's on those.

why would you want this kind of setup first of all? you wont get any kind of look out of it if you plan on keep stock ride height, imo look a littly silly. and do you plan to track it?

willing to suggest, just need to know why lolz.

Just to say I wanted to and did do it. It might be tracked but I have a dedicated track car to beat the crap out of. And I hope to be able to use all of the cars potential without wheel spin through first and second gear. I like the way the factory suspension handles, plus I don't want a firmer ride than I already have, and if I lower it there is no chance in hell that that wide a wheel would fit. This is my dd and winter car so I need to keep it set up for that.

Its not worth it
You need camber, roll, pull

Without low, or camber it will be mexiflush.

As loki would say; sell your car.

i have to go out atm so i cant explain in detail. if you were willing to roll and lower your ride even an inch, would look okay. if its just to say you did it, anyone can do that, but why do it? its better to say you made it happen and made it a bit lower to make it look awesome. hellafunctional. feel me? will post later

Member CelestSpeed3 is running 255/40/17's all around on 17x9 +45 RPF-1's.
I would check this thread (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?52238-17x9-with-255-40-s-Oh-yes-they-do-fit-!!/page2&highlight=255%27s) as a starting point. It's been a while since I've read through it, but IIRC the tire is very close to the strut on this setup. It may require a higher offset to clear, making the fender work required a little more extreme.

Since you're local, I need to see this when/if it's done...

Wow that looks phenomenal. Now I know what I am getting into sort of lol. I retract my idea of a 265/35/18.

Nice to know there is someone local on the board!

okay. so if you want that hellaflush look, your gonna have to lower your car. if you wanna keep your car stock ride height, then you should just leave the current setup. just imo. thus, you will want to drop it in the future which will lead to rolling/pulling fenders because it is for that look.

now putting "265/35R18 in all four corners" is possible. however the front fenders will need pulling/rolling while the rear will need less work. your gonna need to get rims atleast x9 wide and get a +45 offset or lower. on the mz's +45 x9' rims hit the inner strut (coilover) with a wide tire. I know Paul was talking about getting 275 in the front or something rather. but that will require fender flares most likely. if you say you just want to do it, go big or go home and get the 275's or even bigger. if not, just run 255's without too much hastle in the front, and easily fits in the back and get that beefy racecar look. :D

since your a speed, i doubt you want to be hellaflush without being functional from what you have said. but lowering an inch to an inch and half will make the car handle that much better and look 2xtimes better if you run that kinda setup.

OP: what is your "dedicated track car"

Trying to figure out why someone with a dedicated track car would be trying to put 265/35/18 on a gen2 speed daily driver with stock suspension...

Ok, this explains it to me much more clearly. I now see why they won't fit. Thank you. The reason I want to keep it at stock ride height is because my father uses the car in the summer when my bike is out as my parents only have one car. The speed has a stiff ride as it is, and lowering it, even when done properly, will provide an acceptable ride for me it would not be too pleasant for someone with back pain (my old man). Hence the reason I would like it at stock ride height. Maybe in the future it will be dropped.

Track car is an EG Civic coupe. I like to think outside the box sometimes, never seen it done, figures I'd give it a shot. I've seen the error in my ways

Its all good man you asked and learned, unlike alot of other similar threads by others LOL

Are you set on 18's?

Most of us who run wide tires or track the car run 17's .. I lost like 60lbs with my switch to 17's.

17x9 +44 with a 245/45/17 is badass on genpu speeds.

I've test fitted my summer setup and there seems to be no issues

Currently lowered on Cobb springs
18x8.5 +38 and 255/35/18

I really like the look of the 18's on it. I may just leave it be and go with the stock wheels and the RT615k tire or got with one of the wheels if I ever choose one and keep it the same width.
