View Full Version : JBR Wide path VS Cobb SRI+TIP?

Hello guys
I have a Cobb SRI+TIP combo and I'm not planning to go big turbo yet.
Would it be worth it to switch over to JBR Wide path or I won't see any noticeable differences?
Thanks

On the MSF people are seeing up to 10hp over the stock intake size and that's with the 3'' intakes not the 3.5'', you might want to try the HTP intakes because I have heard that they fit better with the stock battery box.

Ya I saw the relocation kit and I'm ok with it... Sucks that I just got a Optima D35...
I would change it only if it's really worth it to.

You will be fine with the stock battery tray just rubs a little bit on the side of the 3.5'' intake, your BPV might get in the way fyi... With my TMIC and stock BPV my old JBR intake was rubbing against the stock BPV so I changed to a forge V2 BPV because it gave me a tiny bit of clearance.
IMHO I would go with the HTP intake over the JBR because it fits a lot better with some minor changes to the bends in the tube compared to the JBR(espeically with the stock battery tray cuz it pushs the JBR intake closer to the BPV).

Pat, not knocking you, but have you tried installing the HTP?
Gary, fitment issue aside, you'll have to fine tune the MAF to get it to run just the way you like it.

Nope... but after fighting with my JBR for hours to get it to fit (adding washers to the mounting bracket and repositioning the intake a crap ton) and then seeing how the HTP bends away from the BPV and has an option of getting the straightener included. Just seems like HTP picked up the ball where JBR left it.

Yup, I remember the washers...
breakfasteatre also has the JBR on his K04, maybe he'll chime in, if he's feeling nice.

The wider intakes are seeing an increase of flow even on a KO4, check the HTP and JBR WP threads on msf for exact numbers. Can't comment on the fitment of the HTP, but with the JBR and a front mount you pretty much need the HTP slim battery tray to give you room to move the JBR WP around to fit.
As fywdyl said you will have to calibrate the maf. I believe (and please double check my numbers from those msf threads before doing anything blind) the HTP 3" multiply by 1.22 and the JBR WP 1.6 to start.
My slim tray just came in and I'll be running the JBR WP.

Seems to be a lot of trouble... i guess i might pass on it and just spend it on the FMIC

Yes I have a cpe Gen 1 TMIC and am thinking of getting a Cobb FMIC

why do you want to go fmic

On Gen2 I'd personally stay with an upgraded TMIC as opposed to FMIC. Gen2's luck out by having a functioning hood scoop with great flow unlike Gen1's.

When I was getting my tunes done by MSpeed. I had a lil talk with Fobio and it does make sense that even with a functional hood scoop i can still benefit extra cooling by moving it away of a hot engine. Thats why I plan on going FMIC and sell the CPE TMIC

A few things...
1. Gary...it's Fobio...lol... ;)
2. Celestspeed3 and NATOR has figured out how to install this. It's not easy fitment, but it does fit. I have the HTP battery tray and running a slimmer battery.
3. The JBR intake is capable of flowing well over 500whp. It's large and it will take some custom calibrating to make it work...esp on bigger turbo's. On stock K04's, the calibrations needed are as expected. For my turbo and built engine, I have now achieved -2/+2% LTFT.
4. We will be doing another JBR order real soon. As well, we are still trying to gather more interest in the HTP parts for a larger discount. Hopefully, we now have enough interest to get a larger discount. Specifically, ppl are interested in their intakes and battery trays.
5. RE: FMIC vs. TMIC on GEN2's...we're talking about making real power here but I concede it is a moot point. A point that becomes less moot when one has clear goals; go big or go home...or to look at real numbers to back it up, chk out Celestspeed3's BAT's...a car making real HP will certainly gain from a FMIC.

LoL, sorry Vince, I edited it but you still saw it~
Ya I'm still hesitating whether or not to go big turbo. If ever I go it would be sth like BNR Stage 3 or a GT2876.
Base on what I have now, am I missing a lot of parts to make the move? I don't plan on making a 400whp beast, somewhere around 320-350whp would be more then enough. First and up most is reliability of the car as its my only car and still have a few years before it's paid off~~
