View Full Version : Best 16" wide and light set up?? (suggestions)

I seriously thinking about dropping down to a light 16" rim with fat tires (but nothing super exaggerated over the stock ratio), especially since I notice my gas mileage on my winters compared to my heavier 18's.

I was hoping for suggestions for combos (hopefully with pics) for 16" set ups. I have given 17's a thought as well. But lets stick with 16's so far and go from there!

Sponsors feel free to chime in :)

cheers

16's would look small. why not go 17's?

17 is the smallest I would go on our cars. Other wise it would look really weird.
But hey, its your ride:)

I like how you think. I have mentioned this in this forum somewhere.

You can try the 16x8 fd rim option I have tried out before.

Tires wasn't fat as I wanted it. I was running 205/55/16

I'd like to know what size tires your expecting to run. If you want "fat" 16" tires, and stay close to spec, it doesnt really happen.

Rims
16x8 or wider. Anything that's 15lbs or less is reasonable. Lots of options available because it is a popular track size. Check out casc forums.

Tires
225/50/16. I had them on 16x7, but I'm sure it will look better on 16x8 as you would have a square sidewall. You will also need to be low to pull it off aesthetically, if you care about that.

EDIT: 245/45/16 also works. I believe Mr. Wilson has that setup on some FD's.

I think 245/45 is going to be the biggest.

FD's are a good budget rim for sure.

Sure send me the link

I have briefly looked at FDs in the past

Any other rim suggestions?

As for 17's I have thought about them for sure. I can't see much weight savings though with 17's with thick and wide tires..... Am I wrong ?

17 inch enkei rpf1's are light but more importantly readily available

Of course the 16 inch version is even lighter

not sure if the bore size will fit, but 16x8+30 R32 GTR wheels are forged and pretty light if you want a hella frush rook

Gram Lights.

Keeping them, but they are too narrow (7.5in) for any decent tire width.

How much does the 245/45/16 set up throw the speedo off?

Stock = 25.61
245/45/16 = 24.68

So it's over the magic 3%, 3.64% to be exact. Speedo will read almost 4% fast, no biggie.

I've been looking into FD rims for this summer.
These wheels shouldn't have a problem with the weight of our mazda3s? I'm looking into using them as daily driver.

The reinforced ones certainly wouldn't have a problem. The earlier ones should be fine for normal driving, but shit does happen and nothing is guaranteed

Yeah, hopefully I'll get the reinforced versions. I'm getting tired of the RX8s and how heavy they are LOL. not that it makes much difference to me. I don't track as much as the rest of the guys.
