Air Conditioning Smell 2nd Gen

Can anyone tell me what's the cause of weird burning smell that occurs often when you heat your windows turning the AC knob specifically for the window only mode? In every other mode (e.g. face/feet, feet only, face only...) it smells fine but under the window mode, heating the windows give off a really bad smell in the cabin.


I'd take it to Mazda but have so many LED/HID mods at this point and it's so cold outside (live near university no garage) that I can't take them off to avoid getting the warranty voided when I get it serviced.

You may get a weird humid smell but it shouldn't be a burning smell. This does happen when changing between some settings on the HVAC.
