Thats why I'm going to jump on the group buy at mazda 247 or the mazda 3 forums as they both have group buys going on right now.

Well, I wouldn't be able to join that group buy now, but I hope you write a review about it when you get it and test it out. If it's a good review I may just purchase one from the site when I'm ready.

Of course this would happen to me and my luck lol.... Taxes and duties here we go.... any idea what the amount will be? I called FedEx and they said that it's declared as a flat panel display for $166 USD and that customs is just determining what the amount that I'll have to pay will be. I tried calling the CBSA but they're closed until Monday at 8am.

You are likely looking at $75 in fees.
$10 duty
$25 in tax
$32 FedEx brokerage fee
$7 FedEx disbursement fee

Alejandr0
03-23-2013, 12:55 AM
Fak!... I hope you're wrong... They said they'll call for payment before delivery if its more than $50, we'll see I guess.

Fedex usually asks for payment of taxes up front, then sends you a bill for the other fees.
Check out finalcost .com and you will see I am correct.

Hope you don't encounter the same luck with customs!...
@S.F.G the fees may be lower if they take into account the $20 shipping charge.

I just noticed the "time travel" my pkg did here.... How was it in Mississauga at 520pm and at the local FedEx facility in HK at 11pm?.... All times are shown in EST so I'm a little confused here lol

Hi Alejandro,

The tracking information only shows that Fedex HKG has transmitted the outbound manifest to Fedex Canada for pre-arrival customs processing. The outward foreign manifest from Fedex HKG has been transmitted to Fedex Canada which will in turn serve as their inward foreign manifest. The goods are not physically here yet, just the customs data.

Hope this helps. :)

Tim

You will see a lot of clearance updates in tracking histories, same with any other courier. They make sure that delays are transparent to you as well. What is most exciting here is when you track your shipment on the 27th, it shows.........."At local Fedex facility".......after that......"On Fedex vehicle for delivery". Been doing it for a while, working in distribution and logistics.

ok after some research reading, i'm growing concerned about the CAN BUS and LCD function in my car. As far as I know, I don't have the CAN BUS plug separate from the main harness, so does this mean that most likely I will loose everything (time, backlight and anything else) on my car? Would I need to do something prior if I'd like to retain this function?. I've attached a pic of when I hooked up my GRom adapter so you can see the only plugs I have.

Nevermind, I just checked your profile. From what I've read. Years 04, and 05 can't retain the LCD with any after market unit. If I'm not mistaken, the LCD is somehow one piece with the stock unit.

I'm putting a small blue led in the pocket cause mine is a 2004 so no light or anything either... wish I could do something more. I was thinking a small rectangular clock that I could stick on would be great if it was like a soft neon... but I don't know if that exists...

I drive the same year as you, and found how to illuminate the stock LCD with the eonon unit

There is a black and red wire on the LCD harness. What I did was ground the black and attached the red wire to a switched 12v source. I used the cigarette lighter wires and tapped into there

Better than nothing and real easy to do!

I havent installed it yet but I did test it out. Radio works as advertised, fully digital and different options for tuning (DX - LOC). Steering wheel controls work without modifying anything. iPod interface is awesome and was able to browse my playlists, artists, songs, etc and played without a hitch. Bluetooth works flawless, we paired up mine and my gf iPhone 5 (keep in mind that only 1 at a time can be paired) and they worked just fine... Since the mic is on the unit you may have to speak up a bit. GPS was able to find me in a matter of seconds and it's features are plenty. The amber/red colour matches the rest of the dash perfectly. I will install it fully tmrw, take plenty of pics and give further details, I've also pm'd vip3r87 about wiring the LCD because for the life of me I cant figure out which is power and ground from that harness, so I asked him what wires he tapped into.

Here it is, my full detailed review and installation process of the Eonon D5151 - it was an awesome day out so I figured might as well take my time and enjoy the weather while I'm at it. I will post pics with descriptions and let the pics speak for themselves as well and provide my opinion of the unit at the end. So without further a due, i give to you.... a $hi7 load of pics:

First and foremost was trying to figure out a way to illuminate the LCD screen above the HU as us 04-05 Non CAN-BUS owners have no way of keeping it. Those of you that do have the can-bus system will retain it fully and it will display the proper mode you are in as well such as radio, navi sys, etc. So here is the LCD wiring that connects to the back of the HU
http://imageshack.us/a/img692/5708/img1883ql.jpg

After some research and tips from Vip3r87 I figured out which wires to tap into
http://imageshack.us/a/img577/3881/img1884x.jpg

Testing it - LCD OFF
http://imageshack.us/a/img35/3946/img1889b.jpg

Testing it - LCD ON
http://imageshack.us/a/img23/7034/img1888ss.jpg

So after this I headed outside and pretty much dismantled the entire centre console
http://imageshack.us/a/img441/4526/img1890ft.jpg

Next came figuring where to tap into to illuminate the LCD. Several of you suggested that I do it through the cig. lighter but i figured that since I only wanted the LCD on when I turn on the lights, I tap into the cig. lighter "light". Here's a pic testing it out:
http://imageshack.us/a/img9/2311/img1892ld.jpg

And since it worked, cleaned it up afterwards
http://imageshack.us/a/img708/4210/img1893e.jpg

Next came the GPS antenna placement, pretty much an obvious choice:
http://imageshack.us/a/img822/8798/img1894pw.jpg

Here we are test fitting and making sure things are going as planned
http://imageshack.us/a/img14/7454/img1895yd.jpg

Now it was time for the iPod cable. I pondered the thought of drilling a hole into the side of the glovebox but decided against it and routed the cable through the ashtray pocket instead. I removed the bulb holder, the bulb itself and the ashtray and fed the cable like this - and an iPod touch fits in nicely
http://imageshack.us/a/img203/8691/img1896l.jpg

Now lets turn on this bad boy before we start slapping things together
http://imageshack.us/a/img22/2949/img1897gt.jpg

Since that went well here it is pushed in with the wires at the back tucked - not as easy since its a lot of wires and cables. At the bottom you can see the iPod cable
http://imageshack.us/a/img854/1167/img1898ym.jpg

All put back together - huge sigh of relief lol
http://imageshack.us/a/img577/838/img1899yr.jpg

Now onto the features. First the radio - works perfect, sounds awesome, reception is fine.... what else do you need? - You can change the colours of the unit for a total of 8 colours. I like the stock look
http://imageshack.us/a/img96/4092/img1902bk.jpg

Next up, BlueTooth. Received a phone call through the unit and was able to hear the other person clearly and vice versa
http://imageshack.us/a/img713/1323/img1900wa.jpg

Alright, GPS. Was able to find me fine and figure out a route in a matter of seconds, very impressive actually. There are several functions you can personalize in the menu, here is an example - since I need to head to lockdown tomorrow morning I asked for the quickest route without highways
http://imageshack.us/a/img43/9615/img1901oi.jpg

Next up is the iPod. The pic speaks for itself. Works perfect, I can control it through the steering wheel (just like all the rest of the other modes) and does pretty much whatever you tell it to through the screen
http://imageshack.us/a/img594/4094/img1903m.jpg

So far so good, so the last thing to test - which should've been the first. Was that the LCD still worked as I intended it to and voila
http://imageshack.us/a/img255/7224/img1904ap.jpg

All set:
http://imageshack.us/a/img534/5842/img1905tk.jpg

In conclusion I'm very impressed with the unit. The sound quality is very good and better than the stock one. For all the features and the price there really is no comparison when it comes to keeping it as close to stock looks-wise. I'm very happy with the purchase. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask. Thanks again to everyone!.

Wow, I had seen pictures of the first version, including the interface and everything, and let me tell you that I wasn't impressed. But after seeing all of this, I can definately say that I found my head unit ! Thanks alot !

@Vip3r87 - I've only seen the 5102 in pics and videos but just the interface alone would make me want to switch. As for the technical side of things, the upgraded processor definitely makes things transition smoothly... no lag and pretty quick.

@Simon99 - Will do, I'll provide an update after a week of usage.

Yea it really does look awesome. I don't plan on putting subs ATM. For now the sound the unit reproduces gives me just the right amount of bass... Who know what'll happen later. Hence I can't really comment about the sub ctrl but I know several members over at M3F have done it without probs, but others have so I don't really know without actually doing it myself. As for a vid. I'll make one once I've mastered this things features cuz if I make one know it'll be a mess of button pushing and touch screen scrolling lol.

Ok as promised, it's been a little over a week that I've had the unit and it is amazing. It does everything I need it to and more. It goes without say that it's not perfect - as is the case about the GPS software, but nothing a little downloading didn't fix. I've had experienced a couple of freezes but they happened after I changed something big like the units settings or modified the software but nothing a reboot wouldn't fix. Here's a video of a couple of it's feature but all in all, im very happy with this unit and for the price and stock look you cant go wrong.

I'm pretty sure I can't post the link in here but you can get it either through navitotal . com or as a torrent, either way you would need the full iGO primo 2.4 version with northamerican maps. It's aprox 1.35 GB in size and it contains a .txt file with step by step instructions. if after following these steps you still need help then just let me know.

@Simon99 - who knows, maybe in the future it might serve a purpose if they offer a firmware update.

I have an 09 GT, based on what I have been reading, for a later model this would be a plug and play unit? Would I need to do any extra wiring. FYI - I have the basic stereo, 6 speakers, not bose...

Hey guys,

I have an 09 GT, based on what I have been reading, for a later model this would be a plug and play unit? Would I need to do any extra wiring. FYI - I have the basic stereo, 6 speakers, not bose...

Edit - I would also be able to keep all my LCD functions? correct?

Thanks,

That's correct, it'll be plug and play so need to tap or modify any wiring. Also, you will retain all functions on the LCD.

Nice vid. Ok, another question. When you pair your phone with the unit via bluetooth, can you run other audio apps on there? I.E. Shoutcast?

I took advantage of the nice weather today and installed mine. Did the same thing as you, connecting the LCD screen to the light bulb in the ashtray. Got everything put back together and working just fine... until I tried the steering wheel controls. Looked over to the side, and I forgot to plug in the CAN-BUS decoder. *facepalm*

Also, the GPS that the unit came with is complete garbage. I am going to attempt to load my Garmin maps onto it. Hopefully that works out.

Hey Guys,

Received mine yesterday and installed last night, love the deck! Everything works as it should, iGO Primo works great. Ordered Thursday ready for pick up on Monday at noon, fast shipping!

Two questions to other D5151 owners:
1. When you set the time in settings, how do you account for daylight savings? EST = -5hs GMT, but no daylight savings option.....
2. When listening to the radio, any station over 100Mhz cuts in and out from time to time and not always the same channel. when I installed the unit, I put the existing car antenna in the D5151. Whats the other antenna and connector for? Anyone else having this issue?

Other than that its awesome! If anyone is on the fence don't hesitate to buy one! Worth every penny!

Glad you like it!
1- I just set the time manually and disabled the auto sync features and called it a day. - works perfect.
2- I only seem to run into this prob after I reset the unit. After setting the presets and tap on one it'll jump to 100.8 or something. All I did both times was enable and disable "AF" and DX. For some reason it worked for me. About the antenna u plug it in directly in the back of the unit.

I just tried downloading the maps from a Garmin GPS I had laying around the house. Managed to get the maps onto the SD card, and Garmin's map updated recognized the SD Card as a GPS for the sake of updating the maps, but guess they just don't work in the Eonon. I'll give the Mobile XT version a shot some time. I am going to try out iGO tomorrow.

I have been using this for 2 days now and love it! Absolutely no major issues. Well worth the price!

If you followed the entire .txt of instructions it had a part where you could add themes. I made the ones with the longer name the default (don't recall the name and its only 2). In there - and maybe the default theme. Just press and hold the left bottom corner box and it'll bring up options of what you'd like displayed. Pretty vague instructions I know but let me know if you're unable to get it and when I'm in the car I'll grab more details from the unit.

I managed to find detailed instructions on a GPS forum. Got it working and displaying exactly what I want. (current time, speed, arrival time) I may scrap arrival time though, as its never accurate. Yesterday it was saying my arrival time was 5:21, and the current time was 5:29. Didn't realize they put a time machine into this thing!!!

So much for no issues. Randomly today, my steering wheel controls stopped working when using the Ipod function. When I press the up or down buttons, the song stops for a second, and then continues right where it left off, instead of changing to the next track or previous track.

Satch: I also had that issue, but it seems to have gone away on its own.

I had some minor issues with mine at first too, you need to figure out the settings for the loc and dx options on the radio screen. refer to your deck manual for what those options do, once i got the right settings mine had no more issues.

I'm a little confused, the manual says "In FM band, touch DX/LOC button to switch between Distant/Local Mode, Default is Distant search mode;" So this means that you can switch between local and distant modes. Are there other setting for dx/loc modes or do you mean just to set local or distant for each individual station. Thanks.

Yes that is one of the settings, also there is the AF button, I believe that one will auto scan if you don't get a good signal, i don't remember what the TA or PTY buttons do, you'll have to read the manual

I don't have mine set for each station, just that LOC or DX may work better for you in your city.

Ya I have it set for Dx and the AF is activated. Other than that there really isn't any other option. I haven't seen a Loc/Dx switch on a car stereo since the late 70's early 80's. You'd think this would be done automatically. I'm thinking the only other option right now is to get a longer antenae. It is the standard 12inch antenae and I didn't have any issues with the OEM Head unit. Even the local St. Catharines station goes fuzzy when i'm driving. It is somewhat frustrating.

I didnt quite get that ...

The reason the unit pushes fwd is because of the weight distribution (top is heavier than the bottom) also it doesn't help that the unit sits in an angle so if you can get something to support the bottom corners at the back, that would help your situation. Hope this helps!

I did try formatting the card. It's a FAT32 4gb card. I used a mac to add the files so maybe I'll try using windows and NTFS.

I tried the following versions: iGO8 (this one actually started but I got a lang error), iGO Primo 2.0, iGo Primo 2.2, and iGO Primo 2.4.

Could somebody PM me a link to a version that worked for them on the D5151?

I got it working using an old Windows computer. Maybe the hidden files that are generated when you use a Mac (spotlight and trash) cause an issue.

and if anybody is wondering, the D5151 doesn't support NTFS.

Originally I was really attracted to one of these units because of the fact(1) it looked factory(2) It retained the Mid and LCD screens as well as the steering wheel controls. However reading through threads on various forums there seemed to be all sorts of bugs, and reading on here there still seems to be issues not resolved. After much research and soul searching I went with the JVC KW NT 30 Double din Navigation head unit. I have had no reason to regret going this route, as this unit has been flawless from day one. The loss of the radio info on the LCD & MID screens didn't bother me after a couple of days.

Hi Sube, the Price of the Eonon5151 is $310 shipped while the price of the JVC NT30 is around the $1100 range (correct me if I am wrong). For that price I never expected the Eonon to work flawlessly (specially being shipped from CHina :P)..I have ran into the hanging problem so I have stopped using my Navigation when I dun need it, I will only use it if I have to find a place and it works with my Radio and SD card songs.

In terms of the reception, I have the sharkfin, the reception of the OEM head unit was degraded as well, so maybe the 'Whip' might help with the reception.

But I agree with you that going for the newer Mazda3s or a bit more expensive car, a better and more reliable option like JVC should be opted. That unit is slick though :) Cheers.

The JVC was $850 taxes in yeah more expensive for sure, but I love the unit. Easy to use, nothing I have found not to like.

Pat.

Does anyone do installations of these things? I.C.E isn't my forte and I'd gladly hand over a few shekels for a nice clean install.

****Future Buyers take note! *****

The Eonon D5151 would be a nice unit except that there does not seem to be any radio reception. I live outside Ottawa, Canada, and there is no reception worth mentioning at all. I mean none...whereas the stock HU played radio stations normally in the same area. Settings where changed for "USA" Location as per instructions. The radio reception with the stock unit was average, But now with this one it practically disappeared altogether.

Was anybody able to fix their practically nonexistent Radio Reception with this unit?? How can anyone sell a car radio where the radio feature does not, or only barely works ?

Hi guys, I just registered and also just installed this unit on my car. Right now it's kinda popping out at the lower part, LOL.
My main problem is loading the IGO map. I have downloaded the full torrent 1.35GB size. Followed the instructions for most part BUT I can't seem to load the map. When I go to I'm able to select the .exe file but when I go to GPS mode it won't show me the map, I just see the red arrow and like BLACK screen. I can't even seem to select a country or search any address.
Please help..
Thanks in advance.

Correction: Take it back: Eonon D5151 is as good as OEM Headunit when it come to radio reception. My mistake my cable to antenna was frayed when I fixed that reception went to normal again. So far unit is running good.

Hi Ambagel: If the unit is sticking out at the bottom use the white bracket clips off the original mazda head unit, the bottom part should click right in. For the GPS software that works I would recommend checking out the navitotal forum they have setups that work.

Sold my Eonon D5151. Put it on kijiji and sold it in one day. My thoughts about it were that the radio reception was poor and the stations would cut in and out. The sound quality is not that good, I would say the OEM head unit actually sounded better. Keep in mind that I replaced the factory speakers with JL Audio speakers which greatly improved the sound quality, but still they sound better with the OEM head unit then with the Eonon. The DVD player only actually showed video periodically and most of the time had a error message. But really who need a dvd player in their car anyways. The GPS was mediocre at best. The positive thing about it was the ability to keep the LED display, other than that I didn't really like it. I guess you really get what you pay for. In the end I lost about $120 but I can live with that. I ordered a Kenwood DPX500BT. It doesn't have dvd or GPS but it does have Bluetooth which is all I really wanted.

Hi, yes I actually just did that before seeing your message. LOL, what happened was I broke one of the brackets that came with the d5151 and used the original white ones instead and it looks better now.
I also got the GPS working, I just had to download the actual CAN map/poi/dem and put them on the right folders..
Thanks for the tips.

Hi guys I bought this unit D5151U last June 23 and installed it by myself on July 4, so far I didn't have any issue. I bought it from the Hong Kong Website because I didn't know that their is a US website selling this item. It fit perfectly in to my 2006 Mazda 3i sedan. I didn't have issue on the bracket or my be because I don't have an amp yet. I'm still using the stock speaker and plan to change them later on, any suggestion guys? Anyway the unit so far so good is working perfectly the answer if you can play video on the SD card slot is yes you can but in mpeg format only. I try avi and mpeg4 format but it won't play it only giving you a message of video error. But I found a little problem while playing video on the SD card their is a time when you are watching any video or movie it suddenly go to a slow motion then it play back normal again. This happen on and off while watching, I don't know if my SD card is the problem or the unit it self. But when I play my mp3 music no issue at all. The unit I got comes with Kundo Navi if i'm not mistaking. The only feature I can't figure is how to change the back ground with my customize pictures. The FM and AM signals in my unit is strong I get all the station in the Toronto, I live in Scarborough by the way. The only features I didn't try yet is the ipod cable, Aux, and backup cam. I don't have an Ipod that why and I don't need the backup Cam too. I might get the TV-tuner in the future may be hehehe... So far this unit run great in my 2006 Mazda 3. Anyway that all for now folk, I will try to post more comments if I find more problem. Thank you for read my post more power to you web master.

@ KYZAAC - You have to hold down the mode button on your steering wheel for about 3 seconds, it will beep then you can hit the mode button once each time to cycle through the settings.

right on, Thanks man.

I'm going to install the backup camera that came with the HU. Do I get power from the reverse light? Or do I wire it to a 12v acc power, AND reverse light?

Where is the best place to mount them? I wanted to go right above the license plate but it looks like there is a piece missing and I can't hook it up to anything.

Well, ive had my unit for about 2 years and now Im beginning to experience some problems. the gps doesnt come on sometimes, i have to reset the unit to make it work. its becoming more frequent.
I think theses Chinese units use pretty low quality electronics, most of them seem to have reliability issues, seems like they're good for about 2 years and then they start to fail.

Funny how, they pay so much attention to make these units look stock but they're engineered poorly

Does anyone know how to use the 3G / WiFi option? It has the Internet Explorer type icon on the home screen, and in the manual it shows the connectors in the back, 1 says: "USB 1(WiFi/3G) ( Optional )" but not really sure what to do from here.

Another thing is the Steering Wheel Controls. Theres a setting called "Steering Wheel Learn" I tried to play with the buttons so I could set one to answer incoming calls, but nothing happened. I was just reading the manual and couldn't make sense of the directions. It says exactly this as step 1, the other 3 steps are just telling how to set.

1) Under power off situation, select wheel control cable, (KEY 1, KEY 2, some vehicles have 3 cables while some have 2 cables) find ground cable of car, and connect it to the host, if there're 3 wheel control cables, connect those two cables to host wheel control cable, if there're only 2 wheel control cable, connect rest cable to one of the wheel control cable;

Did anyone even bother with this? i dont want to go through a pile of stuff for this, its not that important, but if it's just a simple setting that can change, I'd like to have a button to answer calls (my right arm does not work)

steering wheel learn will only let you configure the vol + / - and next / back. The mode, pickup call, hangup call on the steering wheel does not work with any aftermarket system since it was designed to only work with the mazda head unit. Im not sure of the wifi/3g option as the D5151 didnt have that. I suppose you have the new D5163 model? If so, what are your impressions of the sound quality compared to the stock headunit?

Theres couple things that sorta make me reluctant in doing so

Second, the auxiliary in the Arm rest compartment, is there a connection for that? or does that pretty much become useless?

The left bottom clip is not clipping to the frame to secure, and I've no idea what to do with some of the floating wires (brake, illumi, couple LED lights, and a couple other ones) There is no clear instructions on where to connect these wirings since everything else i pretty much hooked up

I've ordered the GM5151, and it's now in customs. I'll post my thoughts on if it's worth $40 more for the NFC unit (i.e. it doesn't suck). I have a 2005 so I bought a 2008 LCD screen off ebay for $40 with shipping. Really looking forward to doing the install. I hate CDs.

It's too bad a Mazda 5 specific version doesn't exist.

did you sort this out? did you pop the OEM clips into the new housing? To chang the gas mileage and stuff just hold down the mode button and scroll using up and down. I think i left all those wires unhooked, just taped the ends

UTC is often casually interchanged with GMT which you can use it in Eonon HUD. The firmware doesn't have auto to switch for Daylight Saving Time. You have to adjust manual -4 or -5 to get the correct time when DST is begin.

figured out the clock problem
when i start the car in the morning and the clock is out by 4 hrs, all i have to do is wait 4-5 minutes and the clock will correct.
must have something to do with the GPS booting up
i was looking at the clock right away then i would reset it.

I'm on the fence with this eonon unit. Just concerned over getting a defective unit. Is eonon still making customers pay return shipping?

When I got mine, the screen turned black, a lot. Metals were touching so I had to insulate it and it works perfectly now. Its all about your luck.

Any experiences with the GM5163 HU ?? I'm looking into purchasing one of those for my 2012 GS but still concerned about the reliability and overall quality of the units as they made in China... any feedback would be great.

You realize 95% of electronics (regardless of brand) come from China.

Hey bud, just wondering, did you end up installing it and how is it? I just bought an 05 mazda3 and was considering that unit? also how hard was installing the 08 lcd screen?

Did you have to pay duties/taxes? If so, how much?

I'm thinking about the new GA5151 for Gen1's. It runs ANDROID!

I didn't even drill anything for my gps.

I get perfect signal with it being being behind the middle vent panel.

I've got iGO primo as my gps and it's fantastic.
Lots of customization available.

that is awesome to hear! I saw on Eonon's installation video that the best place to put the GPS signal is underneath the middle air vent.. they say that you are still able to get signal.. :S

Yeah, it's more than long enough if you want to tuck it and get it behind your rear view mirror or on the roof but that's a lot of effort to get a slightly better signal. To each their own though!

there is a mini usb port (right side), but you will get a adapter cable as well. Is located on right side, where GPS sign is , you have pull out the cover (that is not a button
like the other three above it).

LiviuTincu

You don't need to remove any covers, just tuck the wire behind the door rubber seal than across the cover/top liner at the top (need some strong fingers to push that wire as far as you can). The only this
I have removed is the fuse cove driver side.
I did the back up camera yesterday, pain in the xxx , I have scratched my hand so hard to get the cables thru the grommets/panels. But 2 hours later it worked !
