Hey, so i just bought A 2009 mazda 3 (non bose), i also just ordered a Alpine MRP-M500 amp online. was thinking about getting 2 10inch kickers. OR does anyone else think any other subs would be better for around the same price...
i was just wondering what else i would need to hook it up to my stock HU. or if it would be better to replace the HU with a aftermarket one.. but if i did that would i lost my steering wheel controls and what would happen to that little screen above my HU where it tells me temp and MPG and all that fun stuff.
HELP

To hook it up to stock you need a line out controller ( or converter?)
A new deck is a better idea IMO. it makes the biggest difference.
You can purchase a harness that allows you to retain steering wheel controls.
You will loose that screen function. You can retain the time and temp. But if your battery dies or you unhook it the time will disappear.

Literally a deck will change your world. With a 2009 you can even keep lcd.
If you need any help with the hookup let me know.
The thing I most regret about upgrading my sound system was aftermarket door speakers... unless you get components it's not worth it. I think an upgraded HU with at least one sub and a good amp will make for a good rocking sound system. You won't be ghetto blasting bass that shatters windows but I think that's not what we want.
I'll be in Toronto on and off the next couple weeks so shoot me a message! CHeers!

+1.
Although I like my speakers.
And 2009 can keep the time and temp BUT looses all other functionality.

Actually, it can keep whatever function (clock, l/100km or the KMs left) you set it to when you change the deck over until the batter is disconnected. But you are right about it the overall functionality.
A deck will increase output quality over anything else. I would change the deck if you can. I personally would only change it to a double din because I don't like the look of a single.

Ya I guess I should have been more specific.
I chose the time. Made the most sense to me. But you can choose any of the options.

The short and easy answer is yes.
There is a way to trick the system though to at least keep one of the settings like I mentioned above. There is no fix for it. Believe me many have tried since it's a big issue for everyone who changes their deck.

A new deck will not have an info button. Which means you cannot cycle through the options on the left hand side of the LCD.
When you take out the HU to install a new one you don't unplug the LCD screen so whatever option you left on the screen will be there. Until you disconnect the batter or it dies.
Damn iPhone typing. You all beat me.

There is HU's that are specifically designed for the 3 ( Enon or something close to that) but the reviews are mixed.
Any deck that works well for you along with a dash kit doesn't seem to look out of place.

I've got this head unit right now, and I can honestly say it improved sound quality and was the finishing touch to my system.

It'll only work if you have the new D5151 version, not the D5102.

Sry for the late reply, yes it works for sure. There's an extensive thread on it over at M3F but in short all 05-09 Mazda 3 cars will keep the LCD fully and it will display the proper mode when using the head unit. About the blue tooth, it sounds very good, obviously this was tested as well... I had a convo with Jeff at lockdown while on the DVP and although it was short we were still able to communicate without having to repeat myself and I could hear clearly. Hope that helps!.
