So I installed my Eonon d5151 and it seems I broke/disabled a led .. Now it wouldnt really bother me if it were just a ambient light, but now I can't see the flow of the air at night, which isn't really cool .. Any clues ?

I know for the lighter area it's a small clear incandescent bulb that makes that glow. Pretty easy to change on the lighter. I assume it's about the same for the hvac controls but it's probably better to check.
If I get some time after my service I will pull mine out to check. I just wanna watch the game so I may not get the time.

It's actually not an LED but a very tiny bulb, you can buy the bulb at the dealer. I forget the exact type.
It is a pain in the ass to replace though, as it involves releasing the lines that control hvac knobs.
Here is the tutorial

Pain in the ass to replace. do NOT get the LED versions you can buy on ebay, unless you're prepared to have the HVAC unit be significantly dimmer than the rest of the console. I think because the LED bulbs are directional, the light does not transfer through the plastic as well, it mostly only goes 'forward' (into the plastic face of the console)
If i could do it all again, I would get the incandescent replacement bulbs instead of the LED. same thing for the cigarette lighter, bc the LEDs are directional, the light does not transfer into the plastic as well, and thus only half of the ring is lit up.

if you want to tackle this, I have PDFs of the shop manual to disassemble the manual HVAC unit. I can email them to you, shoot me a PM if you want them.
also. be SUPER careful with the retention clips, they are a PAIN in the AZZ to get back in and i dropped BOTH of them...which resulted in me having to disassemble the ENTIRE center console and pull up the carpet.
put one of those rare earth magnets or something below the area where you're trying to put the clips in, just in case you drop it. hopefully the magnet will grab it before it drops into the recesses of your car.

You know what's funny ... mine started doing this too recently. I have the D5102, upon smacking the side that is not lit, it comes back on ... I'll have to find time to take it apart to take a look.

this is what my unit looks like now with LED bulbs, im pretty sure my HVAC knobs (below) use to look more like the knobs on my head unit (above), also you can see how the cigarette lighter is only half lit.
It gets the job done and is relatively cheap and easy to fine (LEDs that is), but if i could do it again; I'd go with incandescent bulbs. My theory is that incandescent bulbs distribute light in all directions, whereas LEDs are pretty (1) directional.

you are right on this one in a way. different LED's have different light spectrums so you can see them more then others. im going to guess that you did not sand off the red paint film thats on the inside of the unit. if you do that, i can guarantee you that the red will be brighter then the stock red if you use red led's with the paint film sanded off. Did you use red led's or white led's?
i have mine done in blue and there is missing a bit of color on the ends but i still like it.
i did a friends in green and it was better then the blue. he put his car back to stock so we put red led's in and they are way brighter then the stock.

Mine is totally stock with the exception of the LEDs. - Its white LEDs with the red film still on.
