Engine Tick!!

2011 Mazda3 2.5L with mazdaspeed axle back exhaust, definite engine tick when you lift the hood. Normal??? idles smooth and pulls hard, is there an issue?

My engine ticks too.. Same year and engine. Started getting louder around 80k. Valve clearance adjustment should fix the ticking. I'll do that on my next oil change

Everyone has a little tick, pretty comon yet quite annoying.

Spray it with raid! Those darn engine ticks! Make sure you don't get engine lyme diseases as well, pour some anti-biotics into your next fill up! :)

On a serious note, as have been said it's normal. Sometimes new oil makes the sound less loud but it's always going to be there.

100% normal... unless it gets noticably louder i would get it checked by dealer.

Is this sound happening while the engine is running or under load? Cause THAT wouldn't be normal.

If you only hear the pinging when the car is off - then it's normal. It's just hear shields contracting / expanding back into shape.
