View Full Version : wet roads+wheel spin= shutter and tire bounce?

When driving on wet pavement, if I get wheel spin in first and second gear (DSC off), I sometimes get a violent shutter and what feels like a quickly bouncing tire. Have never experience this in another car. I've looked through the forum and didn't find anything. Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea on what the issue might be?

DUnno if RMM will take away much wheel spin in the rain.

It won't. Better tires will solve that.

A motor mount will just reduce the wheel hop.

upgrade RMM, expect a slight increase in vibrations, increase in driving pleasure and increase in smile frequency

I've always wondered what causes wheel hop .. Why don't the wheel just spin ..

the engine moves alot on take off and shifts. especially with the crappy stock oem mount.

So the wheel hop is caused by the tires losing traction due to the weight of the engine going up and down ?

I am not 100% sure, but i am assuming so. because the aftermarket rmm's help stop the engine from moving a great deal, thus the higher duro you go, the stiffer the mount is to help stop engine movement. personally, i get no wheel hop at all anymore, but i do spin wheels without trying on many occasions if its raining, or i push the car. even with the dsc on, still spins, but it stops it after a second or two.

I am with you and do not really understand either. This article seems to make sense to my scientific mind but again I don't have any knowledge that supports it.

Pretty good description. Thing is if it's slippery enough to wheel hope you likely shouldn't be launching hard enough to cause hop... just my opinion.
