Datsun S30 - 240/260/280Z

I've mentioned it a few times on here, but my future dream project car is a Datsun 240/260/280Z, the S30 chassis. Figured why not post a few photos of my favourites I've collected from around the web.

You'll notice most have either add-on or blended fender flares on them. I've been convinced that wider arches were needed one way or another, although a lot of the blended options have aspects that don't quite work for me. Been trying to decide which direction I like best. Then I find the car below on StanceWorks, which has nearly convinced me that stock fenders are perfectly fine.....

you and I are the on same page. i LOOOVE the s30. but ever since the newer wangan series came out, the prices and demands for these have sky rocketed. my friend is currently restoring one this summer. so hopefully ill be able to buy it off his hands in a couple years. the rusts on these are of course...pretty bad. the engine bay has this "gutter" that really rusts out plus the floor, and wheel wells. you really have to strip the thing to bare metal and cover every surface with por15 or something. but thats what a project is all about

i lot of cars that ive been interested in have jumped in price. second hand subaru for example has jumped in price recently. and i was planning on getting that as a second car. not anymore. theyre not cheap to begin with, but now its no longer a good financial investment.

the L-series engine with the side draft carbs are great engines, and make an awsome noise such as a hakosuka (which is also an L series). which im also a big fan of. ive only ever seen one for sale here in canada, and as luck would have it. its near highway 7 (not pin pointing the location)

I know most S30 enthusiasts are in love with the natural sound of the L engines...... but I'm a sucker for turbos. This will likely be my biggest decision on a future project.

True. This one is probably my overall favourite of that style...

.... but the bottom edges should turn back in towards the underside of the car, like the rest of the body.

This one has my favourite front flares (fiberglass if I recall)....

... which blend properly with the front bumper. The rear ones a) go too high on the body and b) don't seem to have a nice edge around the wheel.

That white car though really hammered home that I'd be happy without fender flares, which also happens to be money-saving when considering a complete rebuild :)

^ thats got the japanese spec (or close to) front end. the domestic duck bill one isnt very nice... but there are some aero covers for the head lights and another good looking bumper too.

if thats wrong then feel free to correct that, since i havnt been looking for parts for this car yet lol

dont wanna show off or anything but i got 2 s30 in my possession that ive been working on. engine swap and interior stuff. you know, the works.

and not a an L series motor, but i made it into a side carb'ed sr20 instead of the turbo it came with

might eventually paint the entire parts car to 22v sunlight silver like my mazda 3 LOL. not the best model of the car but im not willing to drop $200 something on an autoart model just yet. and these things attract dust like nuts, so i didnt brush it off before pictures lol

i got into these when i was a kid. forgot when i got these but its been a while. but ive worked on them over the years from time to time. working on a model is a pretty good hobby.

I prefer the bolt on flare look on these cars. On most older cars actually. Blended flares have a tendency to look too bubbly for my taste (like that red one)

most of the fender work on these cars are all custom. so its built the way the creator wants it. i agree with sawatsky, the bolt on look is very nice. even on the mazda 3 lol
