Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new to the site and I just purchased my first car. I just got home from the dealership and should be getting my car on Tuesday! It's a 2005 Mazda3 GT, Sedan.
I'm really excited, and obviously the first thing I'd like to do when I get it is figure out a way to get my iPhone 5 hooked up to it.
I understand that the stock deck does not have any options for this and GTAcarkits don't support the iPhone 5 yet.
Are there any other solutions available for the stock deck, or is an aftermarket deck the only solution?
Thanks!

Its pretty much a new deck
What are you looking for exactly?
Plug it in and charge/play music, app access, Blue tooth ect?

Ah, that sucks. I actually really like the stock deck, and a lot of the aftermarket ones look really tacky in my opinion.
I'm really just looking for steering wheel music control.

The eanon ( sp ) decks look stock with lots of extra features. Although they get very mixed reviews.
I have a pioneer AVIC-U310BT and retained steering wheel controls with an extra harness. I can skip songs on my iPod and iPhone so that's not an issue.
Do you currently have steering wheel controls? If so look into aftermarket HU's that will allow you to retain them and control your iPod. If you have any interest in upgrading your In Car Entertainment start with the HU.
As for them looking tackey IMO it's the low quality ( Walmart brand) dash kits that's cause that problem.

I had the Eonon D5151 and didn't like it so I sold it. I ordered the Kenwood DPX500BT Head unit from Crutchfield. It is compatible with the Iphone 5 but you have to buy the Interface adapter cable. You can also retain the steering wheel control if you buy the interface for that. Unfortunately I will loose the LED display. I found that this was an advantage of the Eonon but the only one. As far as upgrading the OEM sound replacing the speakers with a good set, I did with JL Audio's, is a better solution than just changing the head unit. The JL's sound incredible with the OEM HU. IMHO if you change just the head unit you will still have to replace the stock speakers or you will still be dissappointed by the sound quality. The OEM speakers suck.

peterm15 can you tell me which dash kit that you used. The one's from Walmart or Canadian Tire are made by Scosche. Which one did you use and where did you purchase it. Thanks.

I'm actually just not big on the touchscreen interfaces. I've already got a smartphone ready to mount, so I'm really only after steering wheel music controls and some sort of hands-free mic system.
I have found a deck that I like, the Pioneer FH-X700BT. I've also checked and it looks to be fully ios6/iPhone 5 compatible.
So, obviously I'm going to need the metra 99-7504 dash kit to fit the radio. I believe I'll also need some sort of adapter to get the steering wheel controls working?
Is there anything else?
Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't one be able to use the Bluetooth feature on the newer GRom units and connect the iPhone that way while keeping the stock HU? If you're worried about the battery, get a USB cigarette lighter adapter off eBay and keep your phone charged when in the car... Just my opinion as a quick and cheap solution.

That would be a good idea, I was hoping for a wired solution though because of the loss of audio quality.

Hey SortofOriginal if you order the Pioneer FH-X700BT from Crutchfield.ca it's $20 cheaper than futureshop and they include the dash kit and the wiring harness for free. Plus it comes from Mississauga so shipping is really fast. The only thing is it is currently out of stock. I have called them about it they said they have it on back order but just don't have a deffinate date.

< SortofOriginal > i have called gtacarkits several times and have left messages. Looking for a kit for the wifes car, they yet to return a call, so even if they had a kit, i personally would be weary of getting a kit from them, seeing that they have nil customer service...

Noted, thanks for the advice. I don't think I'll be going that route.

If anyone else is curious, I found another good lucking head unit that isn't too flashy.
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/sony-sony-bluetooth-usb-cd-car-deck-with-smartphone-control-wxgt90bt-wxgt90bt/10241653.aspx?path=1a405c505a55a01482d809d914e2583 3en02&SearchPageIndex=1
It also looks like it has a matte look, instead of the piano black gloss found on most other units.
Looks like I'm going to be picking one of these up Tuesday night after I pick up my car :hawt:D

Just got this one from Crutchfield on Wednesday. It included a Metra dash kit and wiring harness. I will post some pics soon. Want to get a Steering Wheel interface next.
