Hi Guys,

need some help regarding whether my dealer is not over-charging me after confirming the deal.

I had confirmed my order for Mazda3 couple of weeks before, but since i wanted the graphite color, they asked me to wait for 2 weeks. Deal was done on $1000 down payment and bi-weekly payment of around $150. They told me this includes all taxes and is the final payment. I also paid $500 deposit money.

I waited for 2 weeks.

Today, the finance manager of the dealership location called me that my new car has arrived and wanted to discuss warranty as well as payment. He mentioned to me that there are few charges which can not be financed and it would be included my down-payment money. That would be almost $230. So total down payment would be now $1230. :flaming

Also, they told i can not pickup today but on Friday.

I searched for the fees they mentioned (air-tax, PPSA, Tire-damage?, OVIC, license plate + sticker). I was only aware of "license plate + sticker" fees, but rest of them were new to me. So i googled up and found other charges except tire related. Do i have to pay them extra charges?

My only concern is why they did not mention it when i was confirming the deal? :flaming:

Looking for others experience when they bought the new car.

Pull out the contract you signed and read it. If the charge isn't listed then point out that it wasn't agreed to, therefore you aren't paying it. Period.

Hi: i had asked for the a copy of the contract when i was signing it, but it was not given it to me. But i believe if i had signed then they should have it too. I would ask to pull out the original contract i signed. So if that did not include these charges then it means, it was pre-planned from their side..to not to reveal these charges..

As noisy crow suggested look at your contract to see what you already agreed to. Normally they would include any fees or taxes into the final price

Tire Tax, Air Tax and OMVIC Fee are all standard charges that everyone has to pay on new cars. 100, 29.29 and 5 bucks. Build and price features (as far as I know) on manufac websites dont include them. I am a sales rep at Mazda of Brampton and when I brake down Frt/PDI I go over those charges before the deal has been confirmed. I also go over Licensing and lien reg which are those two things that you were told you have to pay last minute before the customer goes into the finance office. I agree that you should have been notified on the full procedure and hidden costs are not fun. Not sure if you have a right to battle because they are standard fees, (not just for Mazda) but you may be able to ask for an equal discount off the car due to the confusion.

Did you negotiate on the bi-weekly payment price? You should never do that... always negotiate on the total price including tax, that way you know the total of all fees added and it's listed so they don't go back and try to add to it. There's not very much you can do since these fees are standard. They were disclosed to me during the negotiation process but I negotiated on the total price and asked for a break down. Just chalk it up as a lesson learned =/

Like NoisyCrow said if the charges are not in the contact, you do not pay. The contact should indicate all charges, deposit and the amount to be financed and the interest rate. The monthly payment is calculated on the amount to be financed which is price, all charges and taxes less deposit paid. If you run into a problem. speak to the guy who sold the car or the General Manager or Dealer/Principal.

If Tire Tax, Air Tax and OMVIC Fees are not included in the signed contract you are not required to pay them. They are actually not taxes consumers are responsible to pay but recovery of taxes paid by Mazda Canada (Tire Tax & Air Tax )and OMVIC fees payable by the dealer. Generally, all dealers and manufacturers pass these taxes/fees they pay to the customer. If these are not listed in the contract, unlike HST, you are not liable to pay them.
