I recently bought a CX5 in the closest dealer from my home... but the dealer doesnt have the color that i wanted in their lot, so I have to wait a few days waiting them to drive the vehicle from another dealer's lot about 30-60 km away..I was thinking about going to another dealer, but the salesperson there was providing good service, and I have to go through the financing process again if i go to another dealer, so I didnt and sticked with the current dealer.
I know it is pretty common for dealers to swap cars. However, i have some concerns about the car had been driven too much in test drives or even a demo car. I dont like my new car to be like that.
How can I make sure of it? I know the odometer doesnt mean anything because it can be resetted or unplugged. All I know is I can take the oil level gauge out and wipe it with a tissue to see if the oil has already turned dark... and another is to look at the tires if the little burrs on the surface of the tire has gone...
Is the two above mentioned enough to make sure the car is ok? any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

It is highly illegal to reset the odometer. I can't see a dealer doing that on a new car.
Who cares if it has a few km ... I bought mine brand new off the lot with 177km from people test driving it and 5 years later and 200,000 km no problems at all

I have heard some dealers done that... to turn demo car or test drive car into a "new" car..
I cant verify it though....just what i heard

thanks aris.
I certainly dont care about a few km too... but just want to make sure the car is not a demo or test drive car.. just dont like the feeling of getting a car that's been driven for many times by many people...

A few km is fine.. 177? i;d call that a demo and ask for further discounts..
Anyhow.
what you can do is find out what dealership the car is coming from. then google map the distance from that dealership to the one you are buying from. add 10-15 km on top of that, and when the car comes to your dealer check the odometer to make sure the kms are in the range you calculated.
Anything more may signify a demo or that they drove it around for no worthwhile reason :)

It was on the lot ... People text drive.
A demo is when the dealer registers it in their name and drives it for a bit.. 177 is not much at all

How about the rust?
How about the rust?
Rust has nothing to do with how my car runs... 5 years and 200,000km (rust was repaired... If it comes back after winter I'm going after Krown to fix it)

Great advice... thank you omalak.
I think i would also pull the oil level gauge out to see if the oil is still clean.. too many scams i heard.:)

So you're happy with it and would buy another Mazda3?

Pulling the dipstick out to check if the oil is clean won't make a differnce.... After just a few km the oil WILL get dark no matter what

Yes I am happy with how my car runs... I will drive this car till the wheels fall off... To answer your question I will not buy another Mazda lol

well... is it possible that the oil will get dark on just few km? to my knowledge, it usuallly turns dark after... lets say 1000.

No man it will get dark after a few km... If you don't trust the dealer ship your buying from then maybe you should by from another you trust?

= = actually i am buying from the lowest rated dealer in toronto.
but i found it out after i gave my down..... so its kinda tricky....
and i have to work everyday, dont have time to go to another dealer, and i really need a car asap (riding bus costs too much time).
so...... thats the dilemma
