Just bought a MAZDA CX5, should i get rust-protection? Should i get it from dealer or aftermarket? The dealer told me that they would have the protection done by disassembling the doors using some machine so they dont have to drill holes in the door like in aftermarket. Is it true?
I feel bad because disassembling a new car's doors seem abit over...... because it is brand new... i also feel the same way about drilling holes in doors....
I wanna know if rust-protection is necessary for the car doors. should i just get the rust-proofing done only on the chassis? is it OK? what do u think?
thanks in advance.
I would go to Krown (that's what I did)

^ This. I've used krown on all my vehicles for the past 15 years and have been very pleased with the results.

midz97 and aris:
thank you. i am wondering if its ok that i dont get the rust-proofing in the doors.~
will the door actually rust?
I was worried about them drilling into my 08 PRHT when I first got it. Trust me, let them drill the holes. It's the only way Krown will work at its best.
Krown is the only rust protection I will ever use.
Congrats on the cx5.

Krown drills holes to spray.
the doors so rust so it's a good idea to rust proof it.
how long do you plan on keeping your cx5? If you plan on keeping it for a long time then it's worth it... If not then it's not worth it.

I did the permanent rubberized stuff from the dealer...it's a lot more pleasant to work on the car without krown's oily crap all over the place. Warranty is still something like 7 years with it (with inspections) which is longer than I'll probably keep my vehicle anyway so was good enough for me. Plus I don't have to take it somewhere else every year.

I got the dealer rustproofing not so much with the belief that it will be more effective in preventing rust, but that I have a written guarantee that they'll take care of it if/when rust becomes an issue. I'm also pleased that bi-annual inspections are less of a hassle than annual oil drip.

Got the dealership one too. Just remind them to check for areas to respray.
Hate the oil drip and the black stuff creeping out onto the paint.

I think Mazda CA has extended anti-perforation to 96 months. If you drill a hole in any sheet metal, they will void your warranty.

They can't void your warranty... Only way they can is if it rust right at the spot they drilled

Is the Wax-based rust-proof in dealers better than oil-base in Krown?
the dealer says it is better because it is wax so 1) it doesnt drip, 2) it doesnt need to re-apply every year, only need to inspect 3) it doesnt smell 4)better drilling skill than in aftermarket like krown.
its about $800 wiht life-time warrenty. I dont care about the price but i do want to know if what the dealer saying its true.
I dont want it to drip, i dont want to re-apply every year and i certainly prefer better rust-proof.
is the dealer right or not? and is the wax-based material safe to children?

Just as several members mentioned, I got the rustproofing at dealer's. For me it wasn't not so much because I feel that it's better, but because I feel that it is better for me. I don't particularly like dealing with multiple venues for different things (oil change here, electrical there, paint else where) so when the dealer offered that, it seemed like a good deal for the price and all the warranties that come with it.
