I know theres like a hundred different threads about rusting mazda 3s and I'm really sorry for making another one. I have an 05 mazda 3 gt, had rust on the wheel wells a few years back and got it fix through warranty with mazda, but it came back a little over a year later now no more warranty.

I've looked through them all but it seems everyone is of the consensus that no matter what kind of fix it just comes back. I've seen mention of getting a new rear panel from mazda but haven't heard of the results. The rusting on my car is bothering me so much that I am thinking of selling it, but I do still love the car and would like to keep it for longer. So is it really a lost cause or has anyone successfully beaten the rust problems?

Thanks in advance and again sorry for starting another rust thread.

If it bothers sell the car and buy something else... Since your car is a 05 it's 8 years old... It's not worth spending 3 to 4 thousand to fix the rust

I've been debating over whether its worth it fixing it, 3 or 4 grand is alot to spend on just fixing the rust tho. Although I am attached to the car, its the first new car I bought myself, so sentimental value is forcing me to consider it. If I could fix the rust permanently then I think I might be able to justify spending that much but if not then I will sell the car.

To me it wouldn't be worth it..... Just say it cost you $3,000 to fix it and a month or two down the road you get into a accident how much do you really think your going to get? Not worth it IMO

i got insane bubble rust on the b pillar and will be attempting to "fix" that soon. one side has already split so i have to find a way to fix and seal it fast before it rains or gets wet.

my plan of attack: rip and pierce the black covering layer, remove/chip off as much loose rusted metal flakes as possible, flatten the area, bondo if theres a big hole, sand flat, and carbon wrap it.

im hoping there wont be a huge hole....if its just rusty and has small holes, ill probably rust proof as much as i can the wrap it

I guess everyone agrees its not worth it to fix it, but really at this points theres no cars out that I want to buy. I would have to wait atleast next year to see what would be available. In that time the rust is just gonna get worst :(. I don't know what to do.

In the meantime try a DIY job. Cost you about $50 and time.

Chech this out:

its not that its not worth to fix it. its how much you want it fixed. you could fix it for way less than $100 by yourself, or pay someone else to do it for way more. my car is pretty beat up all around, but im still going to fix most of it (eventually) because I love and hate the car with a passion LOL.

i personally do everything that i can possibly do with the tools and resources i have at my disposal. if i cant afford to go any further or lose interest of doing it myself on a project, i save up and get jimmy at street performance to help me get it done because i know he's going to do it right.

Or just put stickers over the rust:)

My friend has an 05 hatch. He got the rust on the black trim of the door and he just put electrical tape over it. Obviously ugly when close up but from far it's not bad. But he just doesn't want to put money into it. Mine has a touch by the rear wheels. I just loaded it up with grease every time i switch summer to winter and vise versa to slow it down.

dupli color is a close match but they name the color a bit different. color code should still be the same though. or you can get the color scanned and mixed at paint circuit.

blending the paint will make the repair less noticeable. the clear coat will need a LOT of time to cure before you should buff it to a shine

Alright I'm going to set aside one weekend to do this in the next few weeks. Hopefully I don't mess anything up lol.

keep an eye on the forecast and the sky. make sure its not too windy or else the paint will dust all over the place. had that happen to my windshield and had to spend two days scrubbing crap off. also make sure the painting surface is at least a bit warm and not cold. preheat the can in a bowl of warm water too to keep the paint consistent.

Don't use duplicolour. Go to Paint Circuit and buy their matched rattle cans and some clear coat.

I just finished doing this. Couldn't wait til the weekend so I tackled it yesterday which was a super bad idea lol. I started around 5 and didn't finish to close to 2 in the morning, and ended rushing at the end. It didn't turn out too bad for my first time doing this, but definitely could have been way better. Did one side at a time starting on the passenger side, I ended up making more mistakes on this side even though I was more careful. Was rushing through and didn't take any pics, many next time when the rust comes back lol.

Getting the bumper off took longer then I expected, but it was pretty straight forward. The rust was worst then it looked but thankfully didn't eat through any metal but still took a long time to grind it all out or 90% of it. The paint is off, doesn't really match well. The artic white paint I got has a yellowish tinge, kind of a bummer but its still better then the rust lol.

I'm just happy to not see any rust for now, although going through the car I noticed it rusting inside the door panel :bang. Just wanted to give any update and thank everyone for the advice and links provided! Really appreciate it! Thanks again everyone!

Try rubbing some Meguiars Ultimate Compound or polish over it with a microfibre. Actually it you wet-sand it with 2000-3000 grit sandpaper then hit it with a compound you might get a nicer finish.

I posted this in another section asking if it was rust or raildust. Now knowing it's rust (possibly from the person who did my tails tint), I'm looking for ways to fix it before it gets worse. Any recommendations? hamza7 Have you had any experience with this? Thanks.

thats rust... Only way to fix it is to take it to body shop (i don't know what year your car is but might want to see if you still have warranty)

Thanks. It's 2012. Too young for this lol. Good thing I found it of all places early after car wash this weekend. I'll try to see if one of our sponsors here can do the job.
