View Full Version : EGR Delete Questions

Since it's been 4 months since I got Silverdemon's egr block off plate/egr delete, figured I'd better install it and not have it rattle around in the glove compartment anymore.
The kit consists of the traditional block off plate and plug for the IM and block (with the two bolts). The kit also has a plate to delete the egr altogether.
Just a few clarifying questions.
To remove the actual valve
- 2 bolts
- unplug the actuator - what do people do with this plug? just hide it some where?
- remove coolant line - will coolant flow out this bish like the coolant bypass? does it flow into the egr or out of? locking pliers on the line before pulling it off the egr? what happens when I remove the valve, will it gush from the block?.
Everything going back together is farely straight forward.
Thanks for any words of wisdom.

I would leave the EGR in so you don't have 2 CEL codes, pretty sure that's a fail for emissions when the time comes. (EGR insufficient + EGR not responding)
Not 100% about that though. Someone want to chime in other then me?
Just use the block-off, it's what I did, just talking from experience.

free EGR "block off" is to unplug the EGR electrical connector and disable the CEL code in ATR.
paraphrasing this from MSF "the EGR valve's default position is closed. Also, the door of the valve is a slide mechanism, not a flap. So there's no chance of a vacuum leak."
If you have emissions coming up, plug the connector back in, re-enable the code in ATR, flash the map back, clear the ECU so the Readiness tests are forced to start, drive around for a few days before going to test.

I can always put the valve back in, just the offer of freeing up more space around the engine is hard to argue with. Since I have to remove a bunch of stuff for the basic delete anyways, 2 bolts, a coolant hose and a connector are easy peasy for install/reinstall.
Read the thread on msf as it was a hot topic, makes lots of sense.....but it's just that additional space that is created when the valve is removed.
Bigger concern is just with the coolant line. Got quite the facial with the coolant bypass and really trying to avoid that.

Better safe then sorry, just pinch it off anyway. I"m pretty sure coolant will come out.

additional space is always good. makes part removals/installs much easier around that area, no denying that!

you can you the accessport to delete the code off the ecu. i did the egr block off and delete and i used atr to delete the code and i never got an engine light since.

Yes we understand that
