Hey guys,

I've been having a problem getting the first gear to engage recently, maybe the past 2000kms? It's on and off but I notice it only occurs in the afternoon/night, after the car is all warmed up and used after my morning commute. The car just doesn't seem like you want to get in gear.. It'll just start bucking/jerking/shaking as soon as it starts moving, kinda like it's going to stall.. Once this happens, I'd have to "try again"(pushing clutch all the way in, a bit of gas, slowly letting out) I do this until the gear engages properly.. It's quite a pain and very embarrassing, as sometimes I'd have to push the clutch in 3 or 4 times to try again until the first gear runs normally. It only happens in first gear, all other gears are perfectly fine.. Any one else had this problem before? Any help is appreciated, as I wanna get it fixed asap, but firstly, I need to know what it is; if I should DIY or take it to Jimmy, etc.

Your car should still have powertrain warranty, it is up 100,000km isn't?

I see engine mounts and at least part of clutch assembly on the list:

POWERTRAIN COMPONENTS PARTS LIST (2009-2013 Except B Truck)

Engine: ... Exhaust Manifold and Gaskets, Engine Mounts, Turbocharger Housing and All Internal Parts, ...

Transmission and transaxle: ... Torque converter, Clutch Pressure Plate, Transmission Mounts, ...

Check your motor mounts as others have suggested. You can easily check the PMM (side passenger) for lost oil or cracked/ripped rubber. Also check that your MAF sensor is clean as well as throttle body. With the mileage on your car, you should have at least done this cleaning once or more.

You can always go to Jimmy for diagnosis assistance and the cleanings.

Let us know what happened

okay guys.. figured it out.. the problem actually went away shortly after.. without doing anything, so i thought i'd just monitor it.Llast week, I was on the highway about to make a pass, and the clutch started slipping. Since then it slips almost everytime going up any sort of incline, and the shaking came back, along with a nasty smell, which i assumed was the burning clutch. Got my clutch changed and everything is smooth and back to normal, even the smell is gone. Paid $800 all-in for parts, oil, labour, etc.
