XBOX screwed themselves at the beginning with $499, DRM, No Sharing Games, No Used Games, and Kinect must be connected
8 months later, they do a 180 and take it all back. They gave away the lead.
I got a PS4 preordered the day after E3 announcement.

PS4 baby. I was an xbox fan boy for a while, but now I heard on the xbox one if you have more than 7 people in the room while playing a video game, each additional person in the room has to buy the game.

Call of Duty could have its own thread on how much it sucks now. They were good fun up until MW2. Now their all the same bs.
Seriously, what other game can you jump off a skyscraper while spinning in circle while changing weapons and snipe someone through a window. There are serious flaws with spawning and the fact that killstreaks even exist. The standard 3 worked well and was fun. Now half of them are impossible to achieve for the casual player unless your a god at quickscoping or camping. Plus you can't defend yourself against half of them. Stuff blows you up before you have a chance to even take cover. I used to think there was an element of skill needed with the game but there isn't anymore.
I dont play it anymore because it just isn't fun. Treyarch at least make COD's that are bearable.

Xbox One.
Hands down the better system. PS4 will have quicker RAM (DDR5) but it also uses almost half just when it turns on (more system load and slower processing). Xbox One has the better CPU chip and it is probably one of the biggest chipsets to ever been built as of now. It doesn't require as much RAM while running and due to the chipset it will ultimately run faster then the PS4. Xbox also has a HUGE developer base behind them making more exclusive games and overall the PS network is now charging the same $ to play online as Microsoft does so they are even in that regard. Titanfall and RYSE look amazing, not to mention Forza (half of my old BMW crew are buying Xbox One due to Forza alone).

PS plus > Xbox live. The online is great on both systems ( I had both until last week) but the PS plus is a far better value since we get GOOD free games.
Borderlands 1 and 2, infamous 2, hitman, demon souls, battlefield 3 and littlebigplanet 2 just to name a few.
Sure, I'm going to miss GoW and Forza, but that's it.
Processor wise, whocares. The ps3 had far and away the more powerful one this gen, and yet the Xbox was the better system to work with. The games looked better on it, or were made for the Xbox and ported to the ps3.
Sony did everyone a favor by doing away with an over complicated processor, and because of it you'll see the ps4 will be the better system for gaming this generation. That, and the fact that Microsoft has already let past success get to their head, as they feel they can dictate certain important things that the gaming community would not accept.

Interestingly, I found out that a co-worker in my new office is also a fellow 40+ Y.O. gamer, although he seems to be quite a bit more of a hardcore gamer than I am. He is an XBOX360 fan, but he pre-ordered the PS4 and said that he will only buy the XBOX One when a cheaper version (without the Kinect) becomes available.

Shows how much I've been following this but.. there isn't a Kinect-less version? I would never use Kinect.
Also, the way my Xbox live has been working lately I'm seriously considering against it. Last week this was my ordeal. I didnt even forget my password; it became invalid for no reason. I dont even set expiry dates on them.
Step 1. Install update
Step 2. Sign into xbox live
Step 3. Receive error code
Step 4. Google error code
Step 5. Attempt signing into email address
Step 6. Try all 8 passwords I use
Step 7. Reset password
Step 8. Sign into old email to retrieve verification to reset
Step 9. Enter new password
Step 10. Password cannot be any password you have ever previously used
Step 11. Password must be 8+ Characters
Step 12. Password must have upper, lower case, a number and a symbol
Step 13. Enter completely garbled password I will never remember
Step 14. Passwords don't match try again
Step 15. SIGNED IN
Step 16. Try signing in on Xbox SUCCESS
Step 17. Close screen -- Automatically signed back out WTH
Step 18. Sign in again
Step 19. Can you receive emails at this email address for security? YES I JUST USED IT. Click yes.
Step 20. Your account still isn't secure, please enter another email address or phone number etc etc..
Step 21. Enter phone number
Step 22. We sent you a code to your phone!
Step 23. Go online to _____ to enter your security code
Step 24. Enter code
Step 25. Sign into Xbox live
I just signed on this week and it wanted me to start from step 19 all over again.

Go with a PC. The computer I'm on right now was built over 2 years ago and it STILL has more power than either of the new consoles. I spent roughly $800 on it at the time, so in today's market the same parts/performance costs roughly the same as a ps4/xbone. Agree. Been gaming on PC since I was a little tyke. Always prefer a mouse/keyboard to a gamepad for FPS and I've got a Logitech G27 to play racing games with. My 5 year old comp is only starting to show her age, so I've got a new build coming in the next few months. Stoked for BF4.

I use to swear by PC gaming. I then found less people were using and I noticed less games were being made. I loved the Half-Life series, Counter strike, the very first COD and diablo2. Pretty much the same. Give it a couple of months and see what's happening. Then buy a PS4 anyway, hah!
As a PC gamer, I rarely enjoy consoles (Bought my PS3 a month after release - still haven't played it really), so a little wait to see which one is right for me, is no big deal.
Everyone (majority of the online communities or perhaps a vocal minorities) is saying how XBONE is not as much of a gaming thing as a family TV-media outlet kind of system now. I am thinking, if I don't game on consoles, perhaps that would be a logical choice to get that. On the other hand, I always favored Sony of Microsoft.

There still is a HUGE difference. It comes down to 4k compatibility. PS4 won't support 4k games while Xbox will. That means more HD for me while PS suffers that loss. Both systems are basically the same except 4k for games only as they will both support 4k movies and pictures. Both systems will have the same 8 gigs RAM. PS will use more RAM just for turning it on while Xbox will have the slow DDR3 (which is not really slow when compared to DDR5) and Xbox will have the larger chipset. All in All. Cheap people buy cheap systems. The difference of 100$ means I get a kinects which I don't care about but also better software and system. You will see the fall of PS5 later on. I wish Xbox didn't do a 180 on the system as the new way of doing business would have developers leaving PS for Xbox over used games and the like as then they would make more $$. Follow the $$ always! Just make sure you buy the system you and your pals all agree to get, it will suck playing on the PS network if your buddies got the Xbox instead lol.

I forgot to mention, the Xbox dashboard has been redesigned and is far better then the 360. The match making ability will be bar none the best along with being able to do various things while the game is connecting and gather people. Overall, I think Microsoft is doing a far better job because they have things to prove, not to mention the integration with house hold tv's and such is will make it a multi-platform console where the PS4 is basically gaming. For the extra 100$ you get a lot more then just a kinects.

None of the systems can do 4K gaming.
Yes, both have 8GB, but not the same type of RAM.
The PS4 actually has the faster AMD chip along with a better system architecture to make use of the RAM. Heck, even AMD themselves claim that the PS4 is the faster console until they decided to pull that comment out.

I don't think anyone can say anything until these systems come out. 4K seems to be a hot topic but who the f*ck can afford that this early in the 4K tech schedule. I remember when 1080 (p or I) was expensive. So really it doesn't matter. Also, I don't mean this in a rude way, but up until a year ago I worked in the video game industry and I've never hear of polygon. But that's just me so, it's biased

The article in Polygon reads that X Box One will support 4K. Having the ability to support 4K is great, but much like its predecessor resolutions (720, 1080) the support will be slow until the tech is widely available and affordable for the general population. Also, If you can afford a 4K tv then just get both systems lol

PS4. Just because I've been a Playstation guy. I have a 360 and the original xbox so I'm most likely going to pick up an Xbox One at some point. My girlfriend's a big PS person so she said go pre-order the PS4 first for sure lol. I don't mind that at all.
With regards to the PC gaming, I'm also a PC gamer, and BF4 and the like will for sure be played on PC. IMO, shooters are much better on PC (and of course games like strategy which in my mind don't exist on other platform). The issue though that has arisen is that developers are starting to get lazy for PC gamers (cough, CoD series) where console options like Opti-Match are FORCED onto PC gamers; removing a server browser is a huge mistake.
So a PC games' advantage from a non technical point of view (graphics superior, controls etc.) are getting minimized because because developers are getting lazy and just porting either the whole game over, or porting UI's without paying attention.

not applicable for next generation games.
"As you might expect, the offer isn’t valid on next generation games, so you can’t trade in Assassin’s Creed II and walk out with one of the games for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4"

THIS! PC guy here, but this is totally evident and it makes me crazy.
+1 i hate playing shooters on consoles it just doesn't compare to keyboard/mouse imo. it just keeps getting worse for PC gamers :( i have to deal with no GTA V and keep praying it will come to PC one day :(

I thought they confirmed GTA for pc? I don't get why they don't release it for pc the same time as xbox and ps3. They have so many fans who play on PC for all the modding.
So a PC games' advantage from a non technical point of view (graphics superior, controls etc.) are getting minimized because because developers are getting lazy and just porting either the whole game over, or porting UI's without paying attention.
Sounds like a simple business decision to me. Why put in more effort to make the game better for one system when in the end they all sell for the same price.

I ran through N64, PS2 then 360. Ps4 is looking way more appealing to me, its a shame I'll have to do without Forza, Gran Turismo is just not as good of a game.

Not Forza 5.
Only 200 cars and 14 tracks. Doesn't even have the Nurburgring
GT6 has 1200 cars and 39 tracks.

I can't believe how slow the optical drive is on the XB1...Ryse, took forever, after a couple of failed attempts. I don't like the "Windows 8-ish" interface and, I don't know if I've missed it, I like how you were able to eject the game disc from the interface on the 360 (where you have to press the eject button on the front of the XB1).
On the flipside, I love how silent the XB1 is compared to the 360 and the PS4.

That's great and all (I'm a PS3 and PS4 owner) but... GT6 isn't even coming out for PS4, its coming to PS3! Crazy idea whoever came up with that. Shouldn't have started development on it until PS4 came out then. Such a step backwards, but good for the PS3 owners that they can get another AAA title.
I have a PS3 so I'll still be able to play it but I'll be sitting there on a last-gen console with my next-gen sitting there... while the other next gen (Xbox ONE) gets a brand new racing game.
Awesome.

Just because it's for PS3 doesn't make GT6 any less "brand new". There are still many games in development for PS3 and will be released on PS3. I have both a PS3 and 4 and I will pick up GT6 when it comes out. Just because it's on the 3 doesn't mean I'm going to enjoy it any less.

From what I've seen so far Forza 5 looks incredible and GT6 doesn't look any improved over the last gen of the two games.
As for the cars, are there not many repeats with different decals or racing teams? That 1200 is made up of almost 30 GT-R's, 20 Evo's, 13 corvette's and S2000's, 20 mx-5's and so on.

I have both as well, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
You're right it isn't any less brand new, and I might buy it and enjoy it as well as I have with any other GT game of the series. However, GT is a huge franchise and I think the PS4 was done a disservice by not only lacking a launch title of its calibre, but its competitor had launched with well, GT's counterpart! I just thought it was just a bit of a waste that's all, considering that the PS3 got GT5 relatively recently.
Its great news for PS3 owners though. I just am annoyed of having to switch between consoles. I don't have the luxury of space in my setup for a PC and two consoles.

Last gen comparing with current gen? Took like what? 3 versions later to get into next gen with 1920x1080 60fps? GT has been doing this with outdated specs and were the first to do so. GT6 is a refinement of GT5, you wouldn't compare Forza 4 with Forza 5 would you? :)

What were you expecting? The GT franchise was never a launch title. Forza is always playing the numbers game and I'm not going to be surprised that Forza 6 will be out by the time GT7 is announced for the PS4. Rumors have said that GT7 will be expected by 2014-2015, while every GT game releases twice per generation so GT6 was already expected to be a PS3 release long ago. No surprises. And by relatively recently, that has been 3 years ago...

no, I haven't looked to much into it and have never had a GT game, I had Forza until I got PS3 and my xbox died soon after, so I'm more saying that from what I've seen, in terms of graphics I'm not impressed as of yet, but prove me wrong, please.. I could go for a new racing game
It might also be the fact that I was looking at the PS4 and then saw Forza and it looks amazing..
also Forza 5 not having the ring is strange

Aside from the inherently slow Blu-ray drive that takes forever to completely install a game, I haven't had any problems with mine.

Good to know. I was a bit worried because my friend recently bought a brick :\
The slow blu-ray may just be Sony trolling Microsoft.

Regardless, slow Xbox blue ray is a slow Xbox blue ray.
And purchasing a brick is inexcusable. There should be quality control!

I agree. Just contemplating whether waiting 2 months will make any difference in quality/ bug fixing. Looks like they rushed it

The only saving grace with the slow Blu-ray drive is that, from the games that I've installed, you can start playing them even when the game isn't fully installed and you can pause the installation and turn off the console.

Thats useful. When you restart the console the update continues in the background with no problems?
