Hope I didn't blind anyone lol. Because they mount flat in the bumper they are angled up and out a bit more than I would like - may try to find a way to adjust them in the future.

As soon as I receive it, I will post. The camera mounted to the truck is a video camera though. Not sure we will get the raw footage, but I will try.
The camera crew had people running around with still cameras as well.
Likely a few weeks before we get the footage.

By the SECOND ROW there was already weird gaps opening up and that is multiplied by each row. If you know how traffic works you already understand this.

It actually really only matters as you're going past the record guy. Which is why I was always aiming to both keep a small gap from the car in front, and also be driving a constant speed, as we went past that area. The rest I didn't stress about so much.

counting during the lap was kinda stupid... there were better chances to count ALL the cars during the entire event. 1 or 2 laps were fine to show the people the insane amount of mazda's that showed up to support the cause. the rest of the day, all the cars were parked on the other side of the airport where no one would see them anyways. with no one moving, gaps to mess up counts and with most people at the burger stand. they could of easily gotten the number of cars that showed up.

noticing everyone is blaming someone else in some way, the lap could of ended up far worse than it did. lets remember that. im sure ive had my part in making a 2 car gap once or twice. but i tried my best to keep things in a smooth, predictable flow for the people behind me. driving a manual in that sort of parade lap sucks for them, they dont need me jamming on my brakes in front of them.

perhaps if we only did enough laps and we kept a constant speed of 20 kph in all areas , the 1 car length gap would have worked. that wasnt the case though, lots of people sped up in the straights and then hit on the brakes on the curves.


Also id like to point out that my video was of the very first lap. Before anyone ( or well majority of people) knew that we needed to maintain 1 car length. Afterwards I did make an effort to closing the gap.





... you guys should have seen the speed3 that was beside me ( no sure if its obvious in the video) but he really wanted to make some noise as we went past the sponsor tents in the first lap :loki2

counting during the lap was kinda stupid... there were better chances to count ALL the cars during the entire event. 1 or 2 laps were fine to show the people the insane amount of mazda's that showed up to support the cause. the rest of the day, all the cars were parked on the other side of the airport where no one would see them anyways. with no one moving, gaps to mess up counts and with most people at the burger stand. they could of easily gotten the number of cars that showed up.

noticing everyone is blaming someone else in some way, the lap could of ended up far worse than it did. lets remember that. im sure ive had my part in making a 2 car gap once or twice. but i tried my best to keep things in a smooth, predictable flow for the people behind me. driving a manual in that sort of parade lap sucks for them, they dont need me jamming on my brakes in front of them.

Actually I saw lots of people leaving and joining because they had to evacuate some coffee from their bodies. Every lap.

I don't think you understand the concept of how they are counting the cars in the parade. It doesn't matter how many cars start or end the lap together. Making sure the parade is continuous is key, and is measured by the gap between cars. As the parade proceeds past the counting point, if there is a gap which is too large at car #100, then the count gets reset - you've effectively got a parade of only 100 Mazdas, no matter how many are still behind. You have to have all 350 (or 684 or whatever) cars go through the checkpoint with the proper gap, although as Kat pointed out, the guy was also checking to see that the rest of the parade kept in a reasonable formation at the same time.

Counting the cars before, or after, or talking about the actual number of laps done, has absolutely no relevance to this world record.

Aitch has it right - The official rules from Guinness World Records state that a)all cars must be moving b)there be no more than a 2 car length gap(we were pushing for 1 car length to provide a buffer), c)all cars must travel at least 2 Miles .
If at any point in the "parade" a gap of more than 2 car lengths exists, it would be considered a separate parade.

Here are the official guidelines from Guinness World Records -

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR ‘LARGEST PARADE OF MAZDA CARS’


1. The length of the line created by these vehicles may be recorded for interest but
is not relevant to the record attempt.
2. All drivers must hold a full driving license.
3. All vehicles participating in this world record attempt must be moving – it is not
acceptable merely to park them in a row.
4. The minimum distance of the parade must be 3.2 km. (2 miles) from the starting
point to the finish (all vehicles must cross the start line and drive the length of
the route to the finish line).
5. If a vehicle cannot complete the route, that vehicle must be deducted from the
total count.
6. There must be no significant ‘gaps’ in the flow of vehicles. The vehicles in the
parade may not be more than two vehicle-lengths apart during the parade.
7. The following must all be recorded on a pre-printed sheet and submitted with
the world record claim.
a. the exact model, marque and year of manufacture
b. the registration number of each vehicle
c. the name and telephone number of the driver

well in that case then it makes sense to have no gap. so we didnt get the record because there was too many gaps? I and a lot of people didnt even think the record was for laps anyhow. most (if not all) came for the sheer number of mazdas present. if we all knew the record for the lap was so dependent on the lack of gap, im sure a lot of people would at least try to close them and not try to get a drag strip in front of them. keeping speed and a reduced gap presents a danger in itself. a danger nearly no one knew about because no one was told to close gaps until lap 2. there should of been a clear warning of what to be expected from the lap days before the event.

early sunday mornings + waiting in cars + coffee + impatience + driver diversity + orders to speed/slow = could of been a LOT worse.

and thats all just before/during the lap. people are still pissed/agitated that some people got in for free, that we had to park on the other side of the airport, no "official" picture was taken, lack of motivation to stay and an assortment of other things. all in all, Ami and the team did a good job keeping everything under control. BUT we are all counting on Ami too much, he needs help with something this big. there needs to be a committee to plan and organize this, not just jumping on and helping a week before.

if theres a next time we need to tie all the mazda's bumper to bumper with a bungie cord. if you fall too far behind, you lose a bumper :chuckle

To add to this - release of "official" materials will be solely at Mazda's discretion, they fronted all funds for the cameras and boom car etc. as the material they captured was for their own use. So we have absolutely no control about when those things will be released. Hell it may already be "done" but slotted for release at another time as part of a specific campaign.
