Considering switching from a 55 sidewall to a 40 sidewall. Just wondering if anyone currently running on a 40 sidewall could chime in with some advice on whether the harsher ride is worth the super low profile look.

It's a little harsher but it's definately not terrible, a good quality (no discount brands) 40 series tire will give you the look but not sacrifice a lot of comfort.

Difference in comfort is negligible if you're on stock suspension. Not sure on other setups, but I would tend to think your suspension setup matters most to noticing an actual difference.

I'm on 40's and the ride is super harsh and it definitely has nothing to do with being lowered 6"

It would be stock suspension except for Tein S-tech springs. Just contemplating if i should go 40 with 18" rims or 45 with 17"s

Don't forget width of tire determines sidewall height.

How so?

How so?

the 40 is the aspect ratio of the width. so if its a 225/40/18, the side wall is %40 of 225.

as for comfort, all tires are different. the characteristics of a tire depend on the way they are constructed and designed. but if its the same tire but different size, there will be a slight noticeable change in noise and comfort. tire pressure also plays a role in the way the tires feel

I'm running, 225/40/18 with KYB's and about a 2" drop on Intrax springs. Harsher than stock, it def can be, but not horribly so.

I never had a lowered car before this set up, and so far I have to say that the ride has been much nicer than I thought it was going to be.

i think i will get more enjoyment out of driving a lowered car with low profile tires then having a smoother ride without them

People complain about the ride in my car. I laugh and say "it ain't your car and you getting a free ride. Don't like it then take TTC."

My ex didn't like that to much. ;)

I have 225/40 tires and as a first lowered car I also thought it was going to be worse than it actually is.
Next time I lower my next car I may look towards getting a 45 series tire and get some more sidewall protection. I hate the feeling after curbing nice rims just by accident.

Got my car lowered last night on Tein S-Techs, looks so damn sexy. The ride isn't nearly as stiff as I thought it would be and the smile on my face is bigger then I thought it would be so win win haha. Big thanks to bubba1983 for help with the install
