I own a 2013 Mazda 3 Hatchback GT.

I was wondering for winter tires, if I was going to buy a second set of rims, would I need TPMS Sensors for the second set or do Mazda not use them for this model?

Would any of you recommend going with 17inch or 16inch ? What brands work well?

Thanks in advance,
dave

You don't have to have the sensors. But your light will be on the whole time you have the rims on.

Is your car equipped with TPMS now? Are you looking for alloy or steel? I'm pretty sure the only problem you'll be faced with is the TPMS light coming on if you are equipped and don't have the sensors. The benefit of going to 16s is that it's going to cost you less for rims and rubber. I run 18s for summer and have Pirelli's on steel 16s for winter and it works great.

I have no idea if my car came with TPMS. Is it something that comes standard with the GT? If it doesn't, then I don't have it. I was thinking of sticking with my 17 and just adding winter tires to them, but I don't want them to get damaged from the amount of crazy salt they use on the roads here.

I was looking at getting Goodyear tires, or BFGoodwrench, but i'm unsure. And I hate the look of steelies, so I want alloy rims.

Fair enough...it all comes down to personal preference. I live in Barrie where we get a lot of snow and use sand, so aesthetics through the winter for me aren't really a factor. You should be able to find a cheap set of rims on kijiji or something like that. If you plan to go aftermarket rims in the future then you can keep your OEMs as winters as well. In terms of tires, everyone has an opinion on that and doing a bit of internet research and looking for actual buyer feedback should steer you in the right direction. Again, sizing down could save you a bit of ca$h. In terms of TPMS on your car, just phone the dealership and inquire. I'm not sure if it comes equipped on your model but again it doesn't really matter.

Canadian Models did not get TPMS. US models did.

You can tell if you have TPMS by looking for the icon in the dash when you start the car. If you have it, the light will come on and go off after starting.(if there are no problems with it)

I don't have the light for it. So I'm assuming I don't have it. Thanks for the replies.
