I have an 07 3gt with under 100k and I'v been having this problem where sometimes when I put it into 3rd gear, it pops out into neutral. It happens once every 4 shifts, and during normal driving (shifting around 2-3K). At high rpms, when i put into 3rd, I feel it grinding. I asked around and even read up that it could be the synchros. Anyone have a similar problem and know how much it cost to fix? I'm a student and don't work much, can't afford to fix if it cost too much. Lately I'v been skipping 3rd, revving up 2nd gear then going to 4th because I don't want it to get worst.
Thanks for the help my dudes. ;)

Your shift fork is toast for 3rd and it isn't holding it in anymore.
Some Mazdaspeed 3 guys have had this problem with other gears because the friction pads that help hold them in gear get worn so it won't hold the gear in place.
I am not sure how expensive it is to get replaced or if you could get warranty on it but I know there is a fix for it by replacing the friction pads on that fork. The whole tranny has to be pulled in order to do this so it would be labour intensive but you could replace or resurface the clutch @ the same time.
Sorry for the bad news... maybe other people might add some insight and my guess is wrong J_wow86

thanks alot pwdunmore, I appreciate the help. I guess, no matter what it is, my tranny will have to be opened anyways and I know that's gonna cost an arm and a leg. Im going to have to ride it out till it gets really bad, and since i'm still at low kms, ill try to ride it out for a couple more years and then ill change the clutch too. Hopefully it will be ok.

Your synchros are ****ed. Get it fixed now before the whole transmission shits the bed. The cost will be a lot more down the road.
