Ok. I used the search function and googled the hell out of it but I can't find the answer.

2010 Gt sport 2.5L
Coming home from work one day (Woodbridge to port credit) I noticed a bit of what looked like smoke coming up from the hood. I couldn't be sure cause it only lasted a second or 2.
When I got home, I noticed a wave of heat coming off the engine and the cooling fan was not on. Just for kicks on my way home I plugged in my obd2 reader and the torque app and monitored the coolant temp on the way home the next day. Once It got to 87c I'm assuming the thermostat opened. And the temp was between 85c and 92c all open highway and some highway traffic.
When I got to the city where the real traffic started building up the temp climbed up to around 100c and went back down as I was driving. When I got home I left the engine running and opened the hood to check if the fan would come on. The temp got to 105c and the fan never came on so I shut off the car.

My questions are, what is the normal operating temp range for this engine before it starts getting close to overheating range.

And what temp is the rad cooling fan supposed to come on at?

Sorry for the long story and thanks in advance for some help or input.
Oh and by the way if anyone lives in my area and wants me to check codes just give me a shout.

I don't know the exact coolant temp that the fan should kick in, but simply turning on the AC will activate it regardless of coolant temp. If it doesn't come on, it means it's not working and you should start looking for the reason.

You sir, are right. Turning on the A/C made the fan kick in and temps dropped.
im bringing the car to the dealership, (still under warranty)
im wondering if the thermostat is on the way out, and whether that could affect the fan operation.

Thanks for the input.

This is somewhat Speed related so take from it what you will.

During cruising we tend to be in the 180 F to 188 F, traffic is of course higher and 205 F to 210 F is the norm.

Seems the fan kicks in at 217 ish F.

There are times when I get home and the fan kicks on, other times it does not. Wouldn't be overly concerned, but if you still have warranty as you do, couldn't hurt.
