I changed my tires and noticed some REALLY uneven tire wear on 1 rear tire. I've had my alignment off before and the wear looked nothing like this. Anyone know what causes this ?

looks like a suspension component might be damaged

Mine look like that too. I figured it was a problem with toe, but mine continued to get worse even getting my alignment (and having the toe problem fixed).

My old Speed3 chewed through a brand new set of Sumitomos in 4 monhs..
Now my current Speed3 has done the same thing.
25k of total use and gone.. no alignment or suspension issues either.. and guess what.. Mazda won't do nothing about it.
Seems fishy to me..

I just had my OEM tires swapped out to hankook evo 12s , the wear on my OEM tires are like that too, but I often hammer the sh*t out of the car when exiting corners, in which causing unnecessary wheelspin. In fact, the inner treadwear was So bad I can even see the steelbelt. I had my alignment done and everything was OK. So far I have around 6000 km on these hankooks. and it's holding up great. I guess the sh*tty OEM tires contributed to this kind of wear in my case.

very unusual for tires to be cause.
Specs allow something like +0.3 to -2.3 camber, and a little positive toe.
Either alignment place is eye-balling it close enough or you have loose/broken suspension.. maybe tire getting dragged only on sharp right turns...
color tire with marker and do short test in parking lot.

No no.. fu&k this..
Its a serious issue too many people are having.
Aint nothing wrong with our driving.
Don't make a car then say it can't handle hard cornering.
Nothing is broken.. my old car did it and so is the brand new one.
Others having the SAME EXACT ISSUE.
Time for mazda to pony up and start paying up for this shit..

I haven't ever had a problem with my winter tires (17" rather than 18").... have you guys noticed the same thing? Any idea why having a bigger sidewall would make a diff here?

This isn't just camber wear ... the edge of the tire is actually worn about 1/2 inch lower than the tread

You may want to research negative camber bias on the rear tires. They have after market upper rear camber arms that are adjustable. http://www.amazon.com/Mazda3-Mazda5-00-07-Adj-Rear-Camber/dp/B005GF51N0/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I can't see clearly on the photo. Post a profile pic.
You have a very dangerous situation developing, if only 1" inner is worn at such sharp angle.
Please post your last alignment specs: caster, toe, camber front and rear.
This is only happening to rear tires?
track/race use > -3 camber. in tight turn body roll compensates for the camber. By itself it only causes wear slope across tire, but not faster wear rate.
Toe is what usually causes tire wear since you're dragging tire across ground like pencil eraser.
To begin, I would jack up each wheel and ensure nothing is loose vertically or horizontally.

The car is stock. No changes made to factory camber. No race use, just regular driving
I don't seem to have "rights" to post a picture directly
