Maybe the kid got into that new drug Krokodil and it ate his brain.

What did he say when he opened his door? Was it something like "just let me go home?"

The kid got shaken up...I think the cab driver is equally responsible. No need to try to break the guy's window. Could easily taken picture/video of the Nissan and let him go and notify the authorities.

Could easily taken picture/video of the Nissan and let him go and notify the authorities.I disagree, he only went that far because he had no other choice, the other drive had clearly been (stupidly) trying to escape for a long time. And what if the guy didn't have a camera or a phone with a good enough camera? Trying to sort things out afterwards can be a huge pain in the ass.
Different scenario. You catch someone stealing parts off your car. Would you just take a picture and hope that the police will sort it out (they won't) or do you run over after the guy beat the shit out of him? Dunno about you, but I'd choose B in a heartbeat.
-edit-
Oh, and it never ceases to amaze me how many people just walk/drive buy without helping... calling the police... anything. Seriously makes me sick.

Inexperienced young driver. Wasn't even his car. When you have today's late teen and 20 year olds only interested in the twitter-verse and the rest of the virtual world, I'm not surprised about the lack of care or want to drive a vehicle. My 19 year old brother doesn't know how to pop the hood or find out how to flick the high beams on. Fortunately for me, he know very damn well not to even utter the words "Can I borrow your car?"
I read police eventually caught the perpetrator and charged a laundry list of misdemeanors.

Yes I would try to stop the guy...but I would never try to break the person's window....that would open you up to an assault charge and a lawsuit...by attempting to break in to a guys car you may inadvertently injure the kid...I will not assault a person over a car or the parts on it...I would attempt to catch him but never try to break into their car
Edit: and to answer your question...no I wouldn't beat anyone up if I catch them stealing stuff off my car...I would try to contain them to the best of my abilities...I am not sending anyone to the hospital over a car

Its not that it is over a car, it is that the person is trying to do something illegal at someone else's expense and get away with it. If you just let them go, its not going to deter them from doing it again. Give them a beating, and they'll think twice.
Same goes for someone else's car - if I was walking down the street and saw someone break someones window to steal a GPS I would walk right over to them and (try) to beat the shit out of them. It just makes me so mad that people can pull this kind of stuff off in the middle of the day with people all around and nobody lifts a finger. Not on my watch!! lol

No problem. The 20 year old was probably in a drunken stupor. If he apologizes he shouldn't be held responsible due to his state of inebriation. :sarcasm.

http://www.cbc.ca/m/touch/canada/story/1.1229180Tx for the link, interesting read. But... if you beat someone up that was stealing stuff, and there was no cops on the scene (reason for doing it in the first place) that would be pretty dumb if you got yourself arrested. But point taken, Canada is retarded.

Yeah here both people would be charged...the person stealing and the person beating him up (no matter the reason)

Let's not even get into trying to successfully argue self defence in the case of a home burglary here either lol
Apparently he stole the car as well. Probably why he didnt want to stop.
But WOW, this is hectic lol hahaha

Fact
The laws are way too in favour of the person breaking the law. If breaking the law like this led to the criminal giving up all their rights they might be deterred. If they know the law will protect them and they can fight everything and maybe get away what's stopping them?
