Hi
I'm a newbie to the site and I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem. I have a 2005 Mazda 3 sedan. When the HID's are on the car has a rough idle and eventually stalls when I stop at red lights but is fine while I'm driving. When HID are not on the car runs fine no stalling smooth. I bought the car with the aftermarket HID installed and haven't had a problem for 3 years. Last week they just stopped working and I was told I needed a new relay. New relay installed and now I have the stalling problem.

See how the lights and the rest of your electrical system operates at night since it's more noticeable.

Do your headlights dim, pulse, flicker when you brake, use the fan, rev on higher rpms, etc? Same goes for your car dash lights and radio. It could possibly seem that the stalling at red lights is because with the HIDs, the extra juice needed for the brake lights is too much draw. More so now, that it most likely deeply discharged your battery.

Since you have HIDs, first thing is to ensure its installed correctly. Shoddy electrical work (poor splitting/splicing, using wrong fuses, faulty components) can be the culprit to constant unnoticed battery drain months to years before signs of premature battery wear shows.

Second, check that all grounding points on the car is secure and viable (not loose, no rust, etc.). Check your fuse box and see if all are working and in their proper place.

Third, test the voltage on your battery. Many places test it for free. Test the alternator as well. You might need to replace either or.

Good luck!

My gut tells me that your battery isn't strong enough to support everything your car is running (i.e. HID's, engine, heater, subs?). Get a new battery (the stock battery that comes with the M3 is garbage) and it should fix the issue. I'm no mechanic but I had similar problems with my car and all I did was replace the battery with something a little stronger and it fixed all my problems. If you get the $250 battery from CT, try it in your car. If it doesn't fix the problem, bring it back and they'll refund your money. So you have nothing to lose by giving it a chance.. just a little bit of time.

I bought an optima yellow top two days ago. Seems to have solved my issues. Stock battery lasted less than a year with just a car cam and 5000k halogens.

Update: calling dealership tomorrow. Optima battery only alleviated my issues as they returned. Most likely alternator is effed up.

Take a look at this battery; my guess is that it's better than the Optima Yellow Top you bought.. I've never even heard of Optima..
