Here's the story, drove to get some food, everything was fine. Came out 20 mins later, put the key in, the car does not crank and the red immobilizer light blinks fast. Tried multiple times - no luck. Started the car with viper, put the key in, everything is fine. Came home, tried the second key, and it works and everything is good.
Here's a question, since viper's bypass recognized the key, that means key's chip is good, otherwise the woulda died after touching brake pedal. The other key works fine so what is the problem? Viper was installed back in january, so I don't think that caused anything and I don't really see how it would, since the other key works fine.
Oh and by the way, the broken remote still opens the doors etc, just doesnt start the car. Tried disconnecting the battery and nothing. Read somewhere that the immobilizer flashes so many times and then pauses so # of flashes can tell the problem, but didn't count it yet. And tried leaving the key in for a min and ecu didn't throw any codes either. So would could it be? Ecu just dumped one key? or is there anything else that could be?
The car is on the warranty, but i cant bring it earlier then next Friday coz of work, but Im not sure if i should do it asap since i dont want the second key getting erased.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If u got the ext warranty, tow it. Mazda picks up the tab. Just make sure u call the roadside assistance number

I would definitely think it could be a remote starter issue. Who installed it?

Even if you have an extra warranty Mazda probably won't even look at it if you have a remote starter.

Ahhhh true true... What CWP said /\ /\ missed the viper starter thing. Depending on how long ago you bought it. And how accommodating they (whoever installed the viper), are, they might help you out. At the very least, ask them if they can troubleshoot it for you

I know a guy that can trouble shoot that for you and fix it (100% positive) but it'd be quite the trek for you.

I trust this guy with all my electronic issues and he's brilliant.. he can get anything working right.

IMO its the key, the Viper uses a bypass which stores the keys data (this is why 2 keys are needed to program it on install) or on cheaper bypasses has a spare cut key installed in the module, You putting in the key in the ignition does nothing but keep the car running. It does NOT rescan for the start codes if it is already running with the remote starter. If the second key you have is working fine then I put my money on a bad key

oops, didn't get the notifications. got it fixed, brought it to the dealer, they reprogrammed keys and everything is fine. after i reprogrammed fortin bypass, for some reason it lost the keys so remote start didn't work. just received the third key, will try to get it cut on Saturday and program it. I don't think it had anything to do with the viper. Since only one key didnt work, the other one was fine, and fortin was recognizing both keys, just ecu lag i guess.

so you have 2 working keys now and getting a third one?
You reprogrammed the viper? Or you are putting a key in there to remote start the car?
If you had your 2 keys reprogrammed by the dealer then yes the bypass will no longer work as there are new start codes present and the bypass will need to be relearned to the new codes
somewhat confused
