2010 Sport GS - Newstereo questions…

OK… Newbie questions here about my new 2010 Sport GS inregards to upgrading my Stereo and Speakers. I do not have a Bose sound system.

A quick background about me here in regards to this:

1) I use to be heavy into audio, both car and home alifetime ago. As a matter of fact some 25 – 30 years ago I was a CertifiedAlpine Audio installer along the South Shore of Nova Scotia – trained byAlpine.
2) I am very comfortable around wiring of cars and bikes.
3) My background is in electronics and I believe in doingthings right the first time when it comes to wiring.
4) I have been reading and distilling mega info andfragments of stuff looking for answers or information that would allow me toask a logical question. Please be genital. I may have missed something alongthe way in my searches.

So… I am looking for a good HU and speakers. I find it a bitconfusing at times when I read a lot of articles posted as they (most times)don’t refer to a particular year or generation of Mazda 3. This is one of thereasons for my post… to get things right. I am not looking for a top of theline system by any stretch. I simply can’t afford it after the purchase of thecar, the tinting and the rims and Blizzaks. My questions are simple…

1) I see a lot of activity around the Eonon D5163. It surehas all the things I am looking for and more. It had a well done review byNguy3nha, both on YouTube and here on the forums. As stated, this was for a 2010 – 2012 model years. My questionsare:

a) The review is about the D5163 but the Eonon site has aGM5163. I am assuming these are the same…just a screen mirroring and URCincluded with this GM model?
b) Do I completely lose my LCD display up top of the dashthat displays the outside temp / info / radio station etc? I realize that thetuner display section will go but I would hate to lose the clock and temp.
c) Where are people purchasing these from… E-bay, localdealer (for you anyway) or direct from Eonon?
d) Are people happy with them 6 months down the road afterthey have installed them and the excitement wares off?
e) 65 WPC… I am assuming that’s peek and not RMS. In anyrespect… should I or would it be recommended to add a new heavy gauge powercable and filter system from the battery to this HU or will the Mazda 3’swiring be sufficient?

2) Speakers…I see conflicting stuff here… again probably dueto not stating what cars they were for. Does my car in fact use Qty 4 of 6x8speakers? I think it does… ?

3) What additional charges (when purchasing the Eonon) offshore have people been getting? IE: Duty, Courier brokerage fees etc.

4) Are there better HU’s out there (duh!) that are as costeffective as the Eonon unit? They are pretty cheap cost wise but that’s no goodif they are going bas every 6 months or so and I have to ship them away forwarranty work.

If anyone wants to toss in any additional information hereor direct me to a particular thread that I may have missed would be greatlyappreciated. I am not looking to rock the neighbors and don’t drive around withthe stereo blasting. If I could have the Bluetooth from my phone stream thesong info to the LCD display on the dash I would keep the stereo in place andjust buy a GPS and be done with it.

Thanks in advance guys…

Tim.

Actually, it would be nice to talk to and check out someones install of their D5163 (or GM5163) that might live around these parts.

If any one has one of these an lives near Halifax, please drop me a line.

It seems as if the Eonon is a popular unit but no one posted on here yet... I'm curious about some of this stuff myself.

As am I. I love the OEM look to the eonon, it comes with EVETYTHING you need to get started, and seems to have come along way in the year or so ive been looking at them.

Mr Magic fingers do you mind if I thread jack/ also post options for HU? instead of making a new thread? maybe we can help each other out

Well, thanks for the replies guys… even if you are in search of answers too.

That being said, I have answered some of my own questions. If anyone knows any of my answers are wrong, please chime in.

Question 1:

a) The D5162 and the GM5163 are the same. The only thing different is the extras in the package.

b) I think NO to loosing the display. I have seen pictures and videos of the Eonon units installed with the external displays working. Info on it is limited but is there.

c) The logical place to purchase from is Eonon themselves. It is the only place to get a valid warranty.

d) NO ANSWER YET – are people still happy?

e) NO ANSWER YET – is the 65 WPC RMS or Peek?

Question 2

Yes. My 2010 Mazda 3 Sport GS uses Qty of 4 6x8 speakers. That being said, it is a moot point for me now. I have picked up 2 sets of the following at Future Shop. A great deal on Infinity speakers… The link… http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/infinity-infinity-reference-x-series-6-1-2-2-way-car-speakers-ref-6502ix-ref-6502ix/10198996.aspx?path=054a08e3341468ce997c21d278a4241 aen02 .

These are currently on sale for $99.99 ($40.00 off). I purchased mine on the 10th of Dec and they were even cheaper - $79.99 ($60.00 off). They will fit the car with retaining rings I will make up. These are an excellent speaker.

Question 3

NO ANSWER YET.

Question 4

NO ANSWER YET – However, I have seen cheaper ones out there but they don’t have the features, the Factory Look and pricing that this unit has.

I think after the spending rush for Dec is over, I may very well order one of these in unless I hear differently about their failure rate. I think I will order in the rear view camera too.
