Keith's or Rickard's...if you are stuck with the big names. Otherwise, drink local, give me some brick brewery or mill street brews.
Plus there are dozens of other micro-brews kicking around these parts if you know where to look.

Waterlook Dark is pretty good. Also, Cameron's Auburn Ale is great. Cameron's does a brewers night once a month you can attend for ~$5. You get food, a few beers, and get to sample a one off beer. Also, they offer discount(not published) on beer from the Brewery.

Currently enjoying some Lake of Bays River Walker. Enjoy it much more in the fall/winter than summer.

Beer is supposed to have that certain aroma, flavour & taste, because of what it's made with(the hops & barley). By your above comment I take it that you truly are not a fan of beer at all. Water may be your thing(essentially that's what coors light is..... it has no flavour)

I got turned off of steam whistle very quickly. I had it on 4 separate occasions and each time it was skunked. I now associate the taste with it. Had the same experience with Stella.
If I am at a local bar, I drink Rickards Red exclusively. I find their beer on tap (NOT bottled) is nothing short of perfect for me.
For bottled beer, I usually stick to Heineken in the winter and Corona w/lime in the summer. Sure, its not 'sophisticated' beer, but you can't beat $24/24 and I enjoy it as well. Don't ask me why, but I hate drinking beer out of brown bottles with paper labels... doesn't feel classy.
Used to love Steamwhistle but recently got turned off of it

Stella is great during the summer.
Started drinking Barking Squirrel 'cause it was on sale at our Rotary meetings, good stuff.

Can't forget Spitfire and Old Peculiar from the UK. Get them in the LCBO.
Zywetec (sp?) is some good Polish stuff too.
Tankhouse is good stuff but have to be in that frame of mind
Never say no to a pint of guiness. Aparently the bar at the end of my street pours a good guiness. Have to try it

A few reasons...younger drinkers can't afford the premium beers usually and generally won't go out to places that have them on tap (nice pubs and restaurants). Plus they're still in the dude let's get drunk phase, in which case any beer is good. The other part is just growing up, becoming cultured and experiencing different things in the world.
Being that coors light is your go to beer, suggests you are probably under 21 years old and probably in school.
Mmm, some of those mentioned creemore and steam whistle and tankhouse...time I go out for a pint.

Im 27.. Just because a brew is more expensive, that doesn't mean it taste better.. I've tried different beers and did not like any of them. They were either too heavy, too frothy, or skunky. Coors is lighter without that heavy after taste. You may not like it, but that's your opinion. The topic in this thread was top beer.. Not "shit talk people for their choices".

I've come across like two skunky beers in my entire life. That said I don't usually have more than a pint or so a week at most, so I'm not constantly drinking. So not sure why you always end up with skunked beers? Also, yes, most of the $1/bottle beers taste like piss...so price does come into play. Anyway the point is coors light should be nowhere near a discussion of "top beer" and you keep defending it. The reason I thought you were young is because your opinion about beers reflects that of someone who is younger but no matter, nothing personal, to each their own.

Delirium is an amazing beer, just wish you could buy it at the Beer Store/LCBO (in something smaller than a full size keg). If you get a chance try 'Triple Karmeliet', very close to Delirium, but with slight flavour variations.

Coors isn't a dollar beer.. it's priced in the same category as many of the other major brands..
I only defend it because I legitimately think it's a good beer; despite all the people who compare it to piss.
I'm curious if you would think it tastes like piss if you had to taste test (without knowing what was in the cup) vs another brand.
Kind of like the Pepsi vs Coke challenge.. if you do that, and you still think it tastes like piss, then you obviously like 5% and up lol.
I've noticed a distinct difference in 4% beer to 5% beer.. the 5% is heavier and has more of an after taste.

This is the first time I've publicly said it, but Coors isn't all that horrible. Sure it's a light beer, but as mentioned it is actually very crisp and not heavy/full flavored like many other types of beer. So despite the stigma, after having it a couple of times I understand why people enjoy it. I did.

'Fine Malt Liquor'
Were not talking 4buck 40s here.
A malt beer or liquor refers to a beer that's fermented rather then distilled. Usually the alcohol content is higher then 5.5 but hey.
And I may be wrong but innis and gunn is a malt is it not.

Speaking of which I have some in my beer fridge down stairs
Mr Wilson

Intrinsically you are correct, but those that tend to actually use the term Malt Liquor are Colt 45, King Cobra, Olde English. Not normally the great beers (or at least to me) and is enough to pass on when buying beer.
European strong/fortes beers tend to have a fulll body taste and strong flavours (Delirium for instance). Innis and Gunn still brands itself as a beer.
And thanks to you just opened an I&G Original.....so thanks!!!

Regarding Coors:
It is FAR from the best beer. I would say it's the most "non-offensive" beer. If its what's at someone's place, you'd drink it, because its slightly better than water, and free. If you find all other beer "skunky" you probably don;t really like beer... perhaps a Palm Bay is more your flavour ;)
MGD (bottle, not can) was my "stocked" beer at home. Since I don't drink a ton at home, I have been buying more craft lately.
Flying Monkey's Atomic Smashbomb - Bought it for the name lol. Its a great brew. It's a Strong Beer, so not for everyone, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Mad Tom IPA - A little stronger than I was expecting, but still good. I think the Extra Mad would be a bit much for me to enjoy
Hop City's Barking Squirrel - All Around awesome brew!
When in restraunts I usually find myself grabbing a Creemore, Mill Street Organic, etc. For a beer from Labatt (I think?), this summer I enjoyed some Shocktop on a couple of patios. Solid Belgian White style.

Everyone chill about Coors Light, jeez.
I'm not a beer person, but for me:
Mill Street Organic
Mill Street Tankhouse
Neustadt 10w30
Steamwhistle
Guinness
CloudPump
12-09-2013, 09:10 AM
My go-to beer of choice is Mill St. Tankhouse, I do find many bars don't have it on tap, so my fall-back is Guiness.
I have to agree with the vast majority, Coors Light doesn't belong in a discussion of Top Beers, it's not "spit-it-out" awful, but it's nothing memorable.

Hahah, ok.. how about top 4% beer?
Guinness Draught ( in the can or on tap and not the bottled abomination ) is ~4% but with it being a stout, it may not be to your liking.
Have you tried any wheat beers such as:
AMSTERDAM ORANJE WEISSE
Erdinger Weissbier
Granville Island Robson Street Hefeweizen
Denison's Weissbier
Cheval Blanc
Hoegaarden
My favs include
Okocim Mocne
Cameron's Deviator Dopplebock Bourbon Barrel
Holsten Festbock or Maibock
Boddington's Pub Draught
Anything Creemore
Zywiec

I don't think I started drinking beer till I was about 22 (10 years ago...geez), and even then I really have to be in the mood to drink it.
In the end, you drink what you like, not what people tell you to like so it's all good.
The mountains are no longer blue.......

I'm used to the 7.5% extra stoute we get in the Caribbean. I'll settle for the 5% we get up here but can't do the canned shit. I'm really not even sure what they serve as draught Guinness over here, just know it's not the same as the stuff I order in the pubs in the UK

my list goes a lil somethin like this HIT IT
common beers
MGD
Canadian
Bud Light

Mill Street Organic
Ricards (mainly red but they're all pretty good)

Looks like I'll try to find some in Grenada in January.
Funny thing is, my fondness for Guinness did not develop until after my '92 backpacking days and haven't been back to the UK since then.
A quick glance at the BeerStore (http://www.thebeerstore.ca/beers/search/advanced?brand=All&type=All&sub_type=All&country=All&brewer=All&title_1=guinness&packsize=0) indicates four (!!) unique Guinness products:
-Black Lager ( new to me)
-Draught in a Bottle ( new to me)
-Extra Stout ( least favorite )
- Pub Draught (can)
Sounds like an excuse for an investigative comparison exercise.

I tolerate the can of guiness. I prefer it from the tap but even then how it is poured really makes a big differemce. Unfortunately I've never been outside of canada so I cant compare it to the ones found in the uk.
on another note I cant stand beers that have the added fruit flavor. Keiths white is a good example of that.

There is nothing like a pint of Guinness from St. James Gate itself. I've been with people who traditionally do not like Guinness, but from the brewery they've enjoyed it.

What are these six steps you speak of?
Mr Wilson
12-10-2013, 11:21 AM
Step 1 - Take a cool, clean, dry, Guinness branded glass.
Step 2 - Hold the glass under the tap at an angle of 45 degrees.
Step 3 - Pull the handle forward until it is horizontal and fill the glass to between 15mm and 20mm (about ¾”) from the top. Never put the tap spout into the Guinness.
Step 4 - Leave the surge to settle (approx 119.5 secs).
Step 5 - Top up the glass by pushing the tap handle backwards until the head is just proud of the glass. Do not let the stout overflow, and never use a spatula to level the head.
Step 6 - Hand the pint to the consumer with a steady hand. There should be no overspill.

I would say that is my top beer, strong beer but very full flavour that you don't taste alcohol. The red one is most of the time on certain LCBOs, but the blue one is also available occasionally.
I think the red one is 7% and it comes in 750ml bottle for $6.40, so you feel pretty good after two :D The blue label is even stronger. Those monks know their beer (and cheese)!

That's a pretty bold statement to make. A lot of the brands posted here that "no one has heard of" are easily found at select restaurants/pubs, and are easily discovered by attending events like Beerfest or Oktoberfest (and when you visit events like these you suddenly wonder why you've been drinking Coors light all along :chuckle jk)

Moosehead.. The secret is in how it's made. Like cows, the brewer hooks up a bunch of moose to those suckling systems.. Then the moose get blown by the machines and all the contents go in the tubes to the vats. A little hops here, some yeast there, some fermenting, and voila, you get "Moose Head" in a bottle.

We also name our brews something stupid and funny every time. We made a pumpkin porter around Thanksgiving and named it Blumpkin.

I may put a half cage in the Speed this year so I'll need a hand stripping everything out. I just don't know what to do with the interior peices. I'll have no use for them, and I doubt I would get much if I sold them.

I also tried Tea-Rex at the Three Brewers down there(beer infused with chinese tea) and some whisky beer. All of which was excellent. Im also down at the Bellwood Brewery in Toronto on Ossington St a lot. Its great for werid IPA's and IIPA's

it's great for logging and rating everything you try as well as finding local beers in your area. I've probably tried over 100 distinct beers in the last few months. Every time we go to a pub or brew pub, i make sure to get something i've never heard of before. There's a new place i found nearby that had $4.50 for Four 4oz samples and each additional one is $1. Great way to find new beers

finally found this again after trying it in a pub a few months ago. It's really good, and very smooth. Not as bitter as you'd expect from a stout. It's 9.5% means you probably wouldn't want to go through too many on your own. although at $10/bottle you're not going to be knocking these back like water anyways

Most IPA are fairly strong (no, not Keiths! lol). If you arent a fan of strong beer, you wont like many of them. Pilsners are a safe bet for something crisp, and lighter. If you liked the strong taste, try the Mad Tom IPA. :)

I went to the Beer Bistro in T.O with the wife a couple weeks ago, and ordered Weihenstephaner Hefe. It is a German Wheat beer from the world's oldest brewery.
Yes. It's a mouthful (Y-enn-Steffan). I really, really enjoyed it. You can taste the banana and cloves in it, which sounds like an odd combo, but it is one of the best beers I have had. It was not strong, but not light. Comparable to a lot of other German Wheat beers in this regards.
Anyways, it is NORMALLY stocked at the LCBO fairly regularity. Their latest shipment is behind, but is on the way. At $3.15 for a 500ML bottle, it comes at hardly a premium. Would highly recommend to anyone

OOOHHHH nice thread. Just been talking about this subject with a friend.
Before moving here, I lived in Munich for a while. Don't think I need to say much more about the brews I liked there, except... YOU CAN'T GET HELLES HERE (Except Lowenbrau... in cans *shudder*).
I ended up falling into a cheap and easy routine of buying 24's of Coors Light or Canadian. Quite shocking really, but I really hate pils and they were just easy to drink. But this year this has changed. I have found myself going back to the few Munich beers I can get (Mostly Weissbier) and more recently have started experimenting even more by branching out to a local brewery. That said, here goes...
Coors Light/Canadian - I dunno why, they just go down easy, but they are so bland. Ugh. If I have a case on hand i'll easily blast through 3 or 4 per night, not too cheap.
Munich Weissbieren:
Erdinger - The one that got me into Weissbier when I went to the brewery tour that includes all-you-can-drunk tasters of the products at the end, *hiccup*. They seem to have a somewhat filtered one available here though so not so hot.
Fransiskaner - Arguably the best according to most.
Wiehenstephaner - Alteste brau der welt, or something. Another to be considered the best.
Hacker Pschorr - A good one and the bottles are nice.
Munich Helles (Light beer):
Lowenbrau in cans - Ugh. Rank. Widely considered in Munich to be the WURST of the Helles (There might be one that's worse, but I forget)
I just found Hacker Pschorr Helles Gold. I don't remember this from Munich, but only found it here (LCBO Whitby South) recently. It reminded me of my Munich Helles'. It made me happy.
Augustiner - The outright best Helles from Munich. It's what I request when friends visit. Freaking rocking horse shit to me. Heaven. The bottle makes it look like some cheapy nasty beer. I have never seen it here :( I even asked if LCBO could import it. They could not :(
Local beer:
I recently discovered 5 Paddles brewery in Whitby and have been playing around with their brews. Some interesting stuff.
Right now i'm sipping on a Scottish brew I found in LCBO yesterday - Innis & Gunn Original. It's quite nice :)
These 'fancy' beers i'm trying sure are expensive, but I find myself only buying 1 or 2 at a time, maybe twice a week. I am actually ending up paying much less overall than when I was buying 24's, i'm drinking less too and i'm enjoying what I drink more. Win-win-win :)
I'm also dabbling with Whiskey, but i'm a N00b there.

Innis and Gunn is great, as the LCBO brings in different kinds, you should check them out. I've been trying to track down the cherrywood for a while. I've got my siblings keeping an eye out when they go
There's a few brew pubs around that do samplers that average about $1 per 4 oz sample. Great way to easily try a dozen beers in a day. I figure which ones i like the most, then head to the store and pick them up. Tracking it with untappd has been helpful for this. According to the app, in the last year of living in the US (i installed it when i moved down here), i've had almost 150 different beers
